JonahS's original post started by disparaging another member by calling them bogus because they didn't reply. He set the tone from the outset. No one was as harsh on him as he was on his mystery date. He then escalated it by calling everyone dumb. That is when people turned on him, with good reason. Though no one was as scathing on him as h was on others. I didn't see anyone using the terms he used, ie fat, faggots and spastics. My comment didn't refer to him in any way other than obliquey by saying I find textspeak fucking irritating, in much the same way as I find people continually sniffing fucking irritating. As to him being mentally ill, who amongst us is qualified enough to make that diagnosis at all, especially after a few posts on a web board? I have the perfect accent for conflict resolution, shame about the personality. | ||

You are quite right. I also find textspeak irritating. I find it hard enough work to read real words, let alone have to substitute words that aren't there, as if it is a code. However, once you insert the word "fucking" into your sentence, it tends to come across much more aggressively, and then the post is brought down to the OP's own level instead of maintaining its moral high ground. You are right that his own terms used were quite unacceptable, and it was good to see that no one else responded in kind.

Not exactly - he was asking for advice on a matter if a member was bogus or not because once the communication turned to a possible meeting communication stopped with him thinking that perhaps he was being led down the perverbabial garden path. To his credit he did not mention the person in question as it would have been against the AUP. As I have mentioned in previous posts the question that he was asking was could there have been a delay in the person receiving the memos. Thus perhaps giving them the benefit of the doubt. This aspect was generally omitted by a few people who moaned that he was moaning that he did not receive a reply, which in my view was not the question posed. Regretably after being attacked for using text speak he got fustrated that perhaps people did not understand his intital question and this started him off. If the question had of been answered and he had not had replies bullying him over text speak which he had chosen to compose his question then it can be argued that the thread would not have disintegrated into how it did. and yes I find text speak annoying, esp people using lol on IC but I can still read it. Needless to say that his attitude after his fustration and how he expressed it was totally unacceptable, undefendable and inexcusable. Some people, you particularly can come over as somewhat harsh and insensitive and darn right rude. even although your heart is probably in the right place and but people like me who love and know you in real life know you are a teddy bear rather than a grisley bear

He was calling the other member 'bogus' because the other member had claimed he hadn't received the memos when they'd been sent, had been coming online looking for them and had then apparently claimed they had all arrived together. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | ||

We've seen this kind of thread so many times it's hard to hold back. "Text speak" on a keyboard does irritate me (and "most" others) - and my final line was "get over it" - honest enough advice. Those who know me on here will be familiar with a certain "dry wit" - just as those who know bohanza will be familiar with the term "fuck off you tosser" in many of his posts. As to the OP - balance the question "is there a memo lag" with the title - "help with bogus member or not?" The whole thing was a winge And let's face it - the one thing we do best on here is "play with our food". Anyway - he has "humilation" as an interest on his profile - no pleasing some people ,,,,,, Ever wondered who the devil comes to for ideas ? |
