Bloody love Lash but it's clashed with other events or nilla stuff for the past 5 months so we've not been in ages. It's a great club and has the proud place in my memory of my first scene club and first club play. x Now where were we? Ah, yes - abject humiliation! |

Has the number of club nights in Greater Manchester really gone down compared to a few years ago? At what felt like the high point we had Club Lash, Subversion at the Retro, Le Cage at Partners, Selecta, and several nights at the dedicated MUD venue. Now we have Club Lash, Spankabull, the Kage at Partners, Wildfruit, and several nights at the dedicated MARS4 venue. :T: |

Events do need support though mid December and the cold months of January and early February can be relatively quiet (The same is true of munches). We are not short of events and in 100 miles of me there are more than I've ever known. I've just got in from an unusually quiet event in Leeds though the market yesterday in Manchester(not a regular event)was well attended. I used to get to a lot of events in the north and midlands though the cost of fuel limits this at the moment and probably will from now on. I've seen numbers go up and down before though this time it seems to have affected more events and for longer. Perhaps it should not be a surprise really - just reflecting what is going on in the high street and the rest of the world. I used to use the phrase 'use it or loose it' and I still think there is truth in that but vanilla life and other events have to find their place and the economic situation is certainly one of those events. BDSM and Fetish events have to find their place and those that can offer something worth while will hopefully survive. This is tough for organisers to sustain and its tough enough running events.
The older I get the more I recall... how little I knew when I knew it all. |

the golden age of clubbing was 2008 baby! but i'm bound to say that due to my own bias/experience/when and where i was with life and bdsm at the time. I last went to lash in april 10...things have changed now in terms of being able to afford it but like many, lash holds some very special memories for me and I would love to be able to do it if my circumstances allowed.
I really miss MUD, that was one seriously amazing space It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice |

TG isnt a play club , it panders to the notion , but its a fetish dance club , always has been in my memory , its not its fault, it caters to a different audience , albeit a crossover one with fetish as the mainstream....but what if you dont want fetish , what club allows a suit...Ceasers used to, Lash once (I blagged I was CID on a cops and robbers night)...we have to differentiate fetish club from BDSM club. As Miss Chief said , the focus is now Birmingham , no fault of manchesters that it has become so , London hasn't had a dedicated play night (or regular one) since Hades, and Sweet Torments...Manchester used to have Lash and the Rocket Bar recently Dystopia.. Brum/Midlands always had more Ceasers etc..and now Exodus and other venues. Yes these are hard times, but its the nature of places and clubs such as these that TG has been going for 20+ years as its a proper run profesional buisness , alot of other clubs are run as good intentions and with all the best will in the world , the BDSM community isnt the greatest at supporting itself , which is why grand notions and good intentions do die , which means excellent venues ala Nemesis could have an initial burst survive on good will for a few years and then time comes for it to wind up due to people just withering away, again no fault of there own but the market isnt big enouigh to sustain some events. Sad but true as I see it. "Litany, a poncy show-off with wit, a camera, and his own teeth *swoon*"

many venues open, find a format that works and stick to it like glue, times change, people and intrests evolve... venues need to evolve too, to keep people from being bored. The support is there, take the distance many are travelling to visit birmingham, and the costs involved petrol/hotels/etc, as a example of the support and effort people do make. use it or loose it is true and valid comment, so is ... " Give them what they want and they will come" and Lady Stardust sang her songs, of..... |

Clubs come and clubs go. For various reasons, losing a venue, being shit and no one turns up, the organisers doing something else. Of all the clubs I have been to, since Der Putsch in October 1992, 30% of them are still running. There is a lot on in Manchester, always was, not all of it was any good though. I don't think Lash is that good, it certainly isn't the best event in Manchester. Birmingham has always had a lot on too, from the Ceasers events, the Bridge, Heathens etc. I have the perfect accent for conflict resolution, shame about the personality. |
