It is a justice for Rhea campaign that is being retweeted.
I think it says a great deal on political correctness gone wrong.

I would be interested to know what the actual statistic are for women being sent to prison for similar assaults. The telegraph certainly reports as if their suspended prison sentence was only because they were Muslim however I suspect even if those women had been British and that was their first offence they would have been given suspended sentences anyway.

The judge needs to be sacked. His reasoning is ridiculous and if the boot had been on the other foot I doubt the outcome/sentence would have been the same. @The_Coven / @The_Problem_Page, you might give the advice that someone needs. / I want the "Moon on a stick and the Stars suspended from bunting". / So many haystacks, so few needles! / Conserve conversation and converse about conservation!

It was the defence lawyer who used the fact they were Somali Muslims not used to drinking as an argument. There is no mention the judge used this as a reason for them being given a suspended sentence.

It made me laugh reading the judge handed the women suspended sentences after hearing that they were not used to alcohol because their religion does not allow it. OMG I know many muslims that drink but not in public and one very good friend of mine drinks vodie with water so no one can notice she's drinking. Anyone can say any thing but it doesn't make it true. If it is true the person was called a white slag as the quote shows "Kill the white slag" while they were kicking her in the head as she lay motionless on the ground black and blue this surely should be a racist attack or it it because it was a white women that was attcked.
I can see why it got you to write a bog too

Anyone who knows me, will know i am not a racist but i do believe in justice for all. I think these girls acted in a vile way. And should have got the proper sentance but then i also believe her boyfriend should have maybe got sentanced too. I have been in a pub where the landlord refused to serve an asian lad because of the colour of his skin it incensed my father so much that he bought the guy his drink then sat in his company. The asian guy is now a regular because my dad accepted him what shocked me the most abuse came from a mixed-race lad. I think in this day and age we have bigger issues to deal with.

I not a racist and could not agree more. I remember as a young girl of 15 having a gang of white guys throwing stones and bricks at us and being called a 'nigger lover' because I was with mates from school walking to the park... There was one black girls, two black men, Dot a white girl and I. I still feel sad about it even today when I think about it. Yes there is many more bigger issues I agree. Edited to say: I used the N word because thats what they were shouting and the term used then my many. This is really 'PC' going mad !!!! What's worse , racists or drunken racists ? The Somali girls were both and surely there crime was two fold , ABH and racial abuse !!! This type of thing is what ensences the public at large and fuels tension. The law is an ass .... And so is the Judge !!! The most tangible intangible ........ We all have it ........ Treat it with care !!

As ever, it's almost impossible to get a handle on the rationale for the sentencing without reading the sentencing remarks, although I do note that the report is careful to state that he imposed suspended sentences "after hearing" the mitigation that they weren't used to drink, and it doesn't say that he gave that as part of his judicial reasoning. If he did it's quite wrong. What surprises me is that it wasn't charged as a racially aggravated assault, which would carry a stiffer sentence, given what the girls are reported to have said. I'm out of touch with sentencing but if it were an unprovoked attack with the victim being kicked in the head while on the ground I'd have expected a custodial sentence, and the Judge said as much, so there may be other factors. Trouble is, we don't have the full facts of the case. If it's that out of kilter, the Attorney General can refer the sentence to the Court of Appeal.

Of course, what those four women did was terrible and perhaps it should have resulted in a short prison sentence, but, without knowing all the facts, I don't know. I do know that every Saturday night in city centres up and down the country, horrible stuff like this happens regularly, some will end up with custodial sentences and some won't. I don't think, for a second, that the judge was being 'PC gone mad', I believe he,(assuming it was a he), reached the conclusion he did after listening to all the evidence and the arguments from both the defence and prosecution counsels, in the same way all judges reach their conclusions. I vividly recall a televised court case from Russia a few years back when similar events happened, and the defense claim was exactly the same " not used to drink". The judge doubled the sentence on the spot. " If you are not used to it, do not know how it will affect you, you have no right to be in a public place not in full control of yourself" Please note I am *not* advocating Russian judicial methods! I just recall the similar case, and the very different conclusion to the UK case. |
