Wait, have we just given away any say we had over the wider context in which our economy operates, whilst at the same time agreeing to increase our funding to it (via the IMF), and all to protect our bankers' bonuses?
Tell me it ain't so...

So, we've missed the boat. What if the boat is the Titanic? My goal - to save women from nature (Dior)

Well at least Cameron has established that he wants to avoid any further damage to the icebergs. He's got to be in contention to be the worst prime minister in British history. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.

If the boat is the titanic our action has got to be equivalent to lashing a short rope to the deck before tying it round our waist, securing it tightly with a gordian* knot, then throwing ourselves overboard to hang half way down to the waterline bellowing 'right a bit! Not so fast!' up at the bridge - over the noise of two enormous engine rooms and a thousand terrified passengers. * i know what you're thinking, 'not him again'... The European experiment is a fascinating one and only time will tell what the outcome will be for the Euro-currency-countries vs. the UK. Some people may think it is a good thing that we are not at the heart of the European experiment, but it should not be forgotten that we went into Europe for a mixture of sound and idealistic reasons, and those sound reasons ( such as Trade ) etc. still hold, even if we have lost our idealism.

The thing to bear in mind is that Cameron's decision, if it can be called such, is at best an attempt to placate the right of the Tory party by antagonising France and Germany. That's the best he can hope to achieve with this, and it is utterly craven, irresponsible, lazy and stupid. We're in Europe. We're going down if the rest of Europe does. If the Euro fails, we're going to get stuck into that mess for maybe a decade, maybe longer. Cameron's cowardice has not protected us from anything. What it has done is two things: 1. We've surrendered any say or control over the path of the EU in the crisis. The great alliance of the UK and Hungary has frozen itself out of proceedings, which define our future economic situation. 2. If somehow the EU does pull out of this thing, or even if not, people will remember the chinless little dickhead and the cowardly actions of the UK for years to come. We may well have fucked our status in the EU for the foreseeable future, as the rest of the EU will see us as unreliable and weak, plus they may just hate our guts, moreso than before. Dave has been a shit prime minister literally his entire time in office, but he's breaking new ground here. This is a low point on a regime that never broke above zero even at it's best. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.

Like all good old Etonian money whores Camerons decision was to placate the banks Now assuming the pointyheads in Brussels have brains they would have briefed Merkel and Sarkozy that 70% of the tobin tax would fall on the UK and a tory government would tell them where to go. So its either a case they or their advisors are total idiots, or they are setting us up as a scapegoat. Either way its time to stop chasing the fools gold of the EU and just leave. |
