Posted by angellover on Mon 5 Dec 11, 7:39 PM to angellover's blog.

I have started to make a cross and the pics are on my profile of the first stages. However i am so unsure how to cut the base to fit the floor for it to angel to the wall.

Any advice would be welcome...

I do not have an electic sander and i have been doing the cross by hand, sanding with sand paper with a 1" chisle so its been hard going but so need to get the feet/base right before i secure it to the skirting board and wall.

Thank you.

Hi You want to mount it to the wall or have it free standing?

If it were me id have it free standing with a leg on the back so you can use it in a corner and the weight of a body will hold it firmer in place?

Also worth thinking of routing out the bottom of the legs so feet can slip through and you get closer to the cross? Just put some metal brackets on the back to reinforce the legs.

And don't stain it black as it looks like really nice wood just oil it a little

I have it leaning to the wall, where it will be secured onto a beam and its bolted on blocks on the bottom, behind the wood to secure it to the skirting board.

I just can not level off the legs at an angle to the lean and have no idea of how to do so.

I am also making holes or squares in the cross so it lines up with the blocks, so my body is close to the cross and that my feet go in the holes onto the block thats secure to cross and skirting board... if that makes sence lol Thank you

If I understand the problem correctly, your having problems getting both angels on the bottom of the legs the same and also flush to the floor?

If thats the case, assuming everything is still free standing, lean everything against the wall, the two legs will be resting on the floor, with me so far?

Next you'll need to lay another length of timber onto the floor across both legs, use the top edge of that timber to mark both legs and that will give you your line to cut too.

Hope that helps you.

Thank you but I did that but it doesn't lay on the floor corretly as it was a straight cut :( now i have one leg shorter than the other... as the cross leans backwards its then an angle :( poor me is getting frustrated.
