Okay, so 'Secretary' isn't the world's greatest film, but... If two rather fucked-up people (but, really, aren't we all, at least a bit...?) overcome obstacles - some of which are inside themselves - to achieve true love and happiness, that's completely positive and admirable. And doesn't Maggie G. look really, really sweet? Surely the dysfunctional family and the self-harming are things to escape from; and she does. A round of applause!

No it's about a rather nihilistic girl at university who answers an advert to be an escort/hostess for wealthy parties. What that entails however is very different. If you found the trailer intriguing, you will most likely like the film. It is very stylishly bleak with some quite crazy dialogue and scenes. Very well worth seeing.

Duly added to my rental list. I do love David Cronenberg, Michael Fassbender and V Mortensen. Oh and Knightley spanking. Sounds promising

this film has infact if no where else here done exactly what it set out to do raise question and bring the subject to debate after watching it I found myself wondering whos condition was worse the girls self harming or the bosses OCD but I think the underlying message is the classic no matter who you are or what you are there is someone out there who is your perfect match. As for the matter of her self harming many self harmer's do it for a much more deep seated reason perhaps as was hinted at in the film she did it because she enjoyed pain many would say this is insanity but then would we?

So.. 'she did it because she liked pain' Oh really? Have you actually watched the movie? Read through the posts on this thread? Actually know anything about self harm? Your comment is a tad crass and misinformed.

I think it shows that I'm different and cool to say that it's a boring/rubbish film. I think it shows I have great insight about morality and emotions to say it's about a self harmer being taken advantage of. Patrick Edited 28 Nov 11, 2:18 PM by IndelibleMarker

Yes you did make a point, but this is not the place for me to tell you what I think that point is. Freedom is what you do with what has been done to you. |
