I just posted on this thread http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/posts/319309/ and then thought that a PD perspective would be different and quite illuminating.

In brief, how do you know whether a client you haven't previously met in real life is likely to be genuine and someone who you can connect with in a safe and enjoyable way? General advice for non-pro world is to meet over a coffee before considering play or revealing personal information or inviting them to your home. But I guess that doesn't fit with a PD lifestyle; one has to make a judgement, and perhaps also have contingency arrangements in place to keep safe.

My method is to use my application form as the first way of assessing and filtering any potential subs. It is compiled by me in such a way as it will show me if subs seem compatible or if they reveal certain more worrying attitudes and behaviour.

Once I feel someone has passed the first test, I invite them to e-mail me with further information backing up their application form. This gives them a further chance to impress and excite me or condemn themselves by their own words.

An e-mail exchange can continue until I feel sure I am getting to know the sub better. Once I get a good feeling, then I feel confident to invite the sub to meet me for a session.

Asking for and receiving a deposit then reassures me the man is serious and prepared to be fair and reasonable.

So, by this stage I am happy with his attitude, passions and know him to be a man of his word, so a session is normally going to go well.

I have made very few mistakes thus far and even those I did were just about slight lack of rapport on my side, nothing that ruined what was a one off meeting.

I might consider this as way to find out what a sub is looking for or what his/her limits are,as such.

I do all mine over the phone, even when they've emailed me a long list of wants and when they would like the session I will ask at the end of my email reply to phone me or I won't book the session.

Doms are very reliable, switches are usually pretty good it's only ever the subs that either do a no show, or cancel at the last minute, which considering I'm only CP dom and not harsh or heavy isn't because they are scared at getting more than they can take.

When I get older and drop the pro subbing (as no-one will want a wrinkly sub!) and I take on more topping I will no doubt consider an online form if only to cut down the email/phone time.

I use a form that very quickly sorts out the suitable clients from the non-suitable. Years of reading applications means you can usually tell. You have the ones who think the form is something to be suffered. They are rejected. The ones who list their wants. They are rejected. The ones who tell you what to wear. They are rejected. The ones who just tick the boxes are rejected. The ones who prove they haven't read my site are rejected. The arrogant ones are rejected. The kinky sex pests are also rejected.

The ones who spend time completing the form carefully and prove they read my website get invited to call. The invited phone call to book usually finalises my decision.

Statistically, or should I say anecdotally, the client is at more risk than we are. There are some unscrupulous conmen and women posing as PDs who extort money or mug the client but only occasionally do we hear of dodgy clients and those are more often or not who seek out PDs who will see you off the street within the hour based on just a call to see if they are available.
