*** CANCELLED. The venue has closed and I feel like it's a sign. There was one, it was a success, there won't be another. ***

The SheBush Munch

I'm delighted that my munch experiment was successful, that you all turned up, and that you seemed to like it. Thank you!! :)

The Shepherd's Bush Munch, now to be known as the SheBush munch (because I kinda like it!) will return on 12th January 2012 at the Stinging Nettle, 55 Goldhawk Road, W12 8QP. 7.30pm til closing.

For those of you who haven't been before, we've got a lovely space upstairs which can hold comfortably about 50-60 people and if we spillover (I can hope!), the downstairs bar is very large too. There's also a lovely balcony for the smokers, which on summer days is going to be fantastic...

Where is it?

The Stinging Nettle, 55 Goldhawk Road, W12 8QP.

How do I get there?

Goldhawk Road tube on the Hammersmith & City line is the closest, being literally across the road. Shepherd's Bush is really close too. Any buses that go to Shepherd's Bush, or along Goldhawk Road. If you can't figure it out, try www.tfl.gov.uk/journeyplanner

Is there parking?

It's mostly residential permit only along the side streets. However, after 8pm, it's all ok, so it's a case of finding a space.

What's the dress code?

Anything you would feel comfortable to wear down your local pub. We have a space to ourselves upstairs, but it's a munch, so please treat it like one. That means it's not a play event, so normal vanilla clothing is more appropriate than fetish. But if you'd normally wear your rubber or your corset down the pub, then feel free....

Can I play?

No. It's a munch in a pub. (Note, depending on how things go, as the months progress, I may broach workshops with the manager of the pub, but not yet).

Will there be cake?

Not unless you or anyone else brings it. I'm trying to lose weight. The penalties for breaking the diet are rather severe, so I won't be baking... ;-)

I'm new, will there be a meeter & greeter?

No. Generally (with, I suppose, a few exceptions) everyone is very friendly. Just turn up and explain to people that you're new. You'll soon be introduced around. If at some point you'll be negotiating hard limits, I think that saying hello at a munch in a pub with similar minded people shouldn't be too much of a big deal.

Will there be name badges?

No. Not unless you want to wear one (in which case, bring your own).

Will it be a regular event?

Yes!!! Every 2nd Thursday of the month. And so long as the pub continues to think we're a good bunch who spend money at the bar, and you all continue to turn up... :)

I really hope to see many of you there! :) :) :)

Hmmm. I don't know. I do know that the pub had been looking to be let to new landlords, but the current manager didn't think anything was happening imminently.... They haven't informed me.

I'll be passing by on 29th and will let everyone know. It'd be a shame as the venue worked really well, but given how many people loved the SheBush I would look for another venue in the area.

Watch this space :)

Funnily enough was going to suggest that very same pub too. Has a good range of beers too.

I'm here to drink my milk and kick some ass.And I've finished my milk.

Hmmmm...

Well, after attempting to call several times over the last couple of days and passing by tonight, I can report that yes, the Stinging Nettle would appear to be 'no more', dead and defunct... :(

I'm going to call the company that is letting it tomorrow to see if I can find out any more information (for instance, wtf is happening to my burlesque classes I booked at the venue??!!) and I will also look into the Defectors that has been mentioned (also a good name, methinks..).

SheBush is not dead or buried just yet... There's still a couple of weeks til 12th...

Yes, the venue has closed, I thought about finding another but have decided against it. I've decided to see it as a sign not to continue with it, there was one, it was a success, that's enough.

As an outsider looking in, if the first one was a success and others want to carry it on at another venue, I'd be inclined to let someone else take it over.

Well, duh, of course anyone else can take it over. No-one has to be 'pre-approved' to organise a room or an area in a pub and post about it happening on the boards. There isn't any 'let' about it, if someone else wants to, they're welcome to.

On the other hand, we went months and months (a year?) without the West London munch, which is only resting, before I decided to get off my arse and do something about it, so I'm not actually holding my breath. Love to be proved wrong though. Most people are just happy to turn up.

(Not saying there's anything wrong with that, just if you want something in this world, always best to do it yourself).
