Look at the state of the world constant conflict, warfare, genocide, slavery, injustice and poverty. Would Matriarchy do a better job? Would women do a better job ruling our world? Your thoughts please.

Probably, though every 28 days or so there'd be a little world tension. "the purpose of life is to live creatively, love and be kind" Anne Rice "Ah but it's being creative in how you do that thats fun. And sometimes you have to be quite firm" JV

And this has what to do with BDSM? And just how has patriarchy failed? Can you tell I'm bored and have nothing better to do with my life?

My thoughts. We don't know, and probably never will. A great deal of human society is male dominated and very little female dominated. I suspect that will not change, though I personally hope for an "evening out" (despite being a male dominant - what I like in the bedroom is different from what I want in society as a whole). However I'm not a great advocate of "grass being greener on the other side". Yes, male dominated society has "testosterone induced flaws" - this I admit - and there is a certain temptation to think that a female dominated society would "have to be better". Yet, perhaps, if there was a genuinely female dominated society that, too, would prove flawed - though perhaps in ways we have not had the opportunity to appreciate. No, they'd just be as bad as men are. Basically as I am seeink it, Ray, the problem is that you are not callink your girlfriend for five months. You see, the hot babies like to feel wanted. If you are not callink them on the phone for a while, it is like a way of saying "you are worst song, played on ugliest guitar"

And before anyone mentions Margaret Thatcher and point out they she wasn't a very caring leader, a female leader of a patriarchal political party, is not a Matriarchal government. Like most female politicians in patriarchal political parties women cannot get respect and recognition unless she becomes, 'one of the boys' all women should not be judged by the actions of a few women in patriarchal political parties. Check my Margaret Thatcher comment, it would apply to Condalizza rice, Hilary Clinton, Lipzi Ravin too. A female leader of a patriarchal political party, is not a Matriarchal government.

I'm not sure of the relevance of the quotation, I fear. The point I was making is that, in the absence of a great deal of information on genuinely matriarchal societies, it's very easy to make grand assumptions that they must somehow be better than what we now have. My suspicion is that if we suddenly had such societies we would find that they, too, were flawed and not as delightful as they might appear in the imagination alone.

How do you know that a 'matriarchal society' wouldn't be dominated by the same types of female (Thatcher etc.) that have risen to the top in a patriarchal society? I doubt a matriarchal society would be any more democratic - human nature just isn't like that, and you need to look beyond gender, and consider the personality type of those in charge. On a slight tangent you may have seen Peter Jones' TV show on Thursday featuring Richard Reed of Innocent smoothies (who adopts a very democratic style) and Michell Mone of Ultimo bras (very hands on and autocratic) - where would they fit within your gender stereotyping? |
