Don't Look BACK In Anger (7)

Just a mini back update really, nothing to see here...

My back, for those of you who hadn't read that other blog post from a few weeks ago, felt like turd, but like really painful turd that hurts n that. I had a day off work and i did a little cry and everything and i'm well hard, me, so it must have been bad.

Anyway, a few niggles turned into a list and despite the fact that it (el back-o) had started to improve, i felt a trip to the docs was in order. Oooh, he's a lovely man. Anway...

All niggles sorted and it turns out my back (which he TOTALLY spotted was out without me even having to say owt) is due to the fact i stand and walk like a seahorse - well - seahorses neither walk nor stand and i certainly don't swim around in the air like some magic freak - but i stoop. I hunch. I curl up like a curly thing. He actually said i could do better than walk around with a book on my head and pretend i was at finishing school. I believe i let out a reference appropriate giggle, for shame, at this point.

So i've been trying to sit and stand properly and it all seems to be improving. I drive a lot and it's easy to fall back in my slouchy ways, but the odd tinge shoots me up good and proper like a proper laydee. All this finishing school milarkee might mean i'll learn how to make a white sauce and stop swearing, but let's take things one step at a fucking time, eh?

I had some back problems and went to an Oestopath who said a similar thing. Oestopaths are also magic for backs, so if the sitting up straight doesn't work, I'd recommend it. I also switched from a heavy (tho gorgeous) bag to a rucksack, and a filofax to a little diary. Both seemed to help. That being said, I've very recently gone back to my old huge bag & filofax ways, as I missed them too much!

Looking forward to seeing you trow. Am under the weather too - heres hoping theres hot chocolate, seats and sweeties (and a well heated venue!) :-)

And my bag is tiny. All i need is my diary (which i always forget anyway) and my keys (which i've lost) so i try not to take a big bag anywhere, or i'd be even more lost! :)

There are also exercises that you can do that will help you, as it is not just a case of standing straight and not slouchy (and yes... this *is* the voice of experience). I have been working on this for a while with my personal trainer, and it really does make a difference

I sympathies...my back has been bad for months....finally got to see a physio who told me that due to putting my back out in February I was leaning the wrong way which was causing my sciatica.

Like you I do alot of driving and had to get a support to put behind my back to stop me slouching.

I now have physio exercises to stretch my sciatic nerve out to help...trouble is I have to remember to do them :-(

All through childhood and my teens I slouched, lent and stopped. When it got to the point I couldnt sit long enough to finish my exams at 16 my mum took me to a Chiropractor - and it turned out I had a tilted and twisted pelvis. Sorted everything out a treat and since then do some excercises to keep particular muscles strong and occassionally pop-back to the chiropractor.

Occassionally when it plays up again now I use a tens machine and it allows me to carry on - in addition its super handy and fun having electric around to play with when others visit ;)

Everyone has their own story and recommendations about backs - think its just a matter of finding what works for you.

You have my sympathies - I know how miserable a bad back can be - and i hope you find something that helps :)

Well it's just nearly back to normal, except for the odd 'ow' moment, rather than 'ow' with the odd 'ok' moment as it was a few weeks back (arf) so that's :)

Indeed, last FSSC I think :-)

OMG - I couldn't cope without my diary (well, at work) & I have a huge clump of keys - I'm dead scatty so every things in there, so theoretically I can't lock myself out - can't get very far anyway!
