How can people start a chat with you if you dont have your chat icon online? I have mine off as I dont want to chat but do get some people sending me a chat message. jxx "Take me from this earth an endless night- this, the end of life. There is a sneaky workaround that I shan't describe, but it's quite easy to do sadly If you look in the mirror and don't like what you see

I know if you're in the public chatrooms your icon is live regardless but i've had a couple of people invite me to chat when i wasn't in there. It's a pain. A mate in my network does it but he's a friend and i don't mind, but when strangers do it and ask personal questions it gets my back up. Any way to prevent it Admin? jules.x

It would be useful if as part of the additions to IC3 that having your chat icon switched off disabled the chat mechanism (Not sure if this is possible without it stopping you from using the chatrooms). If you look in the mirror and don't like what you see

They can work out how to get to your chat page even if there are no links to it because you have the chat icon off. This is very handy for people who you do want to chat with, as they can bookmark your chat page and talk to you even if you don't want to talk to strangers at that time. We could limit it so if your chat icon is off then only your network can talk to you, but what if someone wants to talk to a prospective partner they've not met yet that way? Turning off their chat icon so they don't get interrupted. They're not on the real-life networks if they've not met, and adding to the online networks would risk turning it into a public list of people they're negotiating with! More ideas welcome btw. That's another point: to run chatrooms you really need a private chat feature enabled otherwise people will monopolise the room for increasingly private conversations and you can't say "take it to private chat please!" Any new system would need to allow private chats started that way despite any other (eg network-based) restrictions. Admin Remember: it's only a website

Ok, understand that...so how about doing it so that you can chat to those in your following list?.....you could request this by memo to the person you want to chat with and then they could reply either accepting or declining. As the following list is only known to the person concerned nobody would be able to just chat. Just an idea. jxx "Take me from this earth an endless night- this, the end of life. You want to discover if someone follows you. You try chatting to them. If you can, they're following you. This is a way of breaking the privacy of who's on the following list Admin
