I everybody.... i'm hoping that all you good people will consider helping me with a research project i am working on. I am studying for a degree at the moment and one of my modules is on Subcultures and i have chosen to look at the BDSM scene. I am completely open minded and totally non judgemental this is a legitimate academic research project. I am a mature student (42) and conducting this research as a genuine study to be able to understand why people get into this scene and what they get from it. If i am able to i would love to post a questionnare on this site ... this would involve 10 basic questions which will be done through Surveymonkey.com ( this site guarantees complete anonimity and so i would not have access at all to any of your details only your answers to the questions). I would also love to interview a few of the members here online if anyone would be interested... i can guarantee that i will not keep any of your personal detail... just a nickname/age/sex would be adequate information for the purpose of the study. I am particularly interested in the idea that some people are open in public about this life choice and others keep it secret.
I hope you can help .... i would really appreciate it ... and i am happy to publish the findings for anyone who wants to see them. I can verify who i am too as regards my uni credentials should anyone like to let me interview them individually .. it can be on here or however you like so as to retain your anonimity.
Many thanks to you all.
Kind regards Kate | ||

What does that mean? I am legitimate and am happy to prove it to the powers that be on this site. I understand that you probably do get people on here that aren't genuine and i understand your reticence. If no one on here would like to help i would very much appreciate any help in pointing me in the right direction to any BDSM groups that would. Many thanks Kate

Oh, and the level of the degree. This sort of research has been done before by e.g. Radio 4, who discovered people with fetishes involving cobblestone (you couldn't make it up).

Would help if you actually filled in your profile too... blank profiles always ring alarm bells... There's a somebody I'm longing to see, I hope that he turns out to be, someone to watch over me

Somehow, I have the feeling that 10 basic questions aren't quite sufficient to understand, as a lot of us are still questioning our own motives and have been active for years.. I dunno, but a mere 10 questions indicates that this is a Ladies magazine sort of survey... not really what I'd expect from a scientific one, at least in my opinion. Also, I don't understand why you can not give us a link to the insitution, the professor, etc.
Also, for any academic survey, I believe it is good custom to check on the fact that possibly others have done some work here first. There actually are academic materials/surveys/resources on this subject available. For example, I am personally aware of a Dutch professor, who has done a HUGE survey on exactly this subject: bdsm and the choice on secrecy or public life.

It is likely a research student would have anticipated such concerns before posting such a request. I'm not saying the O.P. is not genuine it just seems that their approach has not been properly considered. Also the standard of planning is as poor as the standard of English. Several smaller paragraphs instead of a single huge, monolithic one would make the posting easier to read. As a word, 'I' is always spelt as a capital and not in lower case as the O.P. did repeatedly. Perhaps the O.P. should have consulted their tutor to get a second opinion as to the viability of their approach. I understand that this is normal practise. Therefore, you can understand peoples' concerns about the O.P. PERHAPS not being on the level.
