Whatever the origin of its 'Stupid Party' label, modern Tories seem determined to do just what it says on the box. They are rebelling against their leader, Cameron, not because he is a friend and associate of unscrupulous jailed media hacks and corrupt politicians, not for his rescue of Gaddafi's torturer in chief, Moussa Koussa, not even for his disastrous friedmanite fiscal policies, but because he won't further cripple the UK's chances of economic recovery by withdrawal from Europe.

'Stands the calendar at 1803 and are there bumpkins still for tea?'

We would be far better to withdraw from the EU then we are staying with it.
