Say it ain't so Scotland?
Anybody think there's a real chance England can woo fair Caledonia back once more, or is this time the last time?

Speaking as an Englishman and a regionalist I really hope this happens. As long as we suck all the oil out of the North Sea first. My goal - to save women from nature (Dior)

I think the oil is pretty much had already. So it's all good there. I'm inclined to agree about Scotland being better off without us, and vice versa. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.

The SNP is NOT going to ask a simple yes or no question. They will muddy the waters. The reason they are not asking 'now' is despite gaining a majority in the last election they know, now, that they would lose. If we are to be given a multi choice question, the included should be do we stiil want a Scottish Parliament....a gloryfied council & very expensive extra tier of government. We have about 2 actual politicians of any substance. It is a (sad) joke & there is no way Scotland could afford independence. 178

I doubt they'd want it. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.

What made me cross about the vote which allowed Scotland to set up an independent Parliament (so hugely over budget that it is the perfect testimony to the Blair years) was that England were not allowed to vote on the matter. After all, we were (ostensibly still are) a UNION - so why didn't the English have a say in whether or not it was a good idea for the Union (and likewise regarding Wales)? Isn't this another one of those political issues that pop up from time to time? Scotland clearly shouldn't be allowed to govern itself. I site Edinburgh's tram system and the Parliment house as proof. If they can't build shit properly, how are they going to do the tricky stuff, like taxes?

Because England has no legitimacy over matters of Scottish sovereignty. I do think it's a shame that England doesn't have a defined identity and maybe even an independence group too. But were anybody to try and set up such a thing it'd be over run with freaks from the EDL before you can say twunts. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. Well the English haven't been doing too well on that either so we're not best to judge. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.

I take that point entirely. However, this was NOT just a matter affecting Scottish sovereignty. It was about how the Union (which England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland were all part of) might proceed. As such, the thoughts of all the members were pertinent. You might as well say that, oh, I don't know - North Carolina - could choose whether or not to continue to be part of the United States, and insist that the views of the other 49 states - and Washington - were irrelevant.
