I am happy that the munch went well, but I would ask you again to think about having a night that did not clash with the other munches that take place in London. As an organiser of another munch I know that it is quite upsetting when someone sets up something up on the same night, when it is unnecessary as there are other nights in the month that are still free.

That was an awesome night in a lovely venue! Such a fabulous crowd with a great mixture of new and more familiar (I'm not going to say old!) faces! Stayed far too long because it was just so enjoyable and came home way later than I'd planned, but that's what good times do to you! Rose, as the organiser, organise it for a night YOU can do and are happy with. People will come or they won't and no matter what someone will be unable because they have something else on. For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness. (Ralph Waldo Emerson)

Fair enough, that's some of you. Others might feel like they might like to go to both. But that really isn't the issue, the issue is one of respect for the hard work other people put into their events, and how disheartening it can be when something/someone tears down the work you do. There are 20 week nights in every month, and there are not 20 munches yet in London.

Many thanks to RiC from MisPaired and me. We had a great time, met some lovely people and have already pencilled in the date for January. We'll be there if we possibly can and if we are we'll be there on time (blame Harry Hill!). If you fall, I will catch you. If you don't fall, I'll push you. Really happy you all loved the venue: pls keep any other feedback coming (except about the date). The clash is not with other munches in West London: the clash is with a munch which takes place all the other way the entire other side of London in Greenwich. It is NOT a lack of respect for other munch organisers that I organised the SheBush munch on the same day. (And I am offended you think it was, but that's another matter). It simply didn't occur to me that there would be a clash with a munch so far away. I have considered dates. The SheBush munch is never going to be a party munch so Friday nights aren't right for it in the way Fridays suit the London munch and the Crunch. Given my work constraints, having a night out early in the week is rarely possible for me: as organiser I need to have some confidence I can attend! For me, Thursday's are best as often Friday's I can work from home. It can't be the 1st Thursday: that would clash with Putney, a very local munch. I don't want it to be the day before Camden, or London because 2 munches in 2 days is a lot for some people and is therefore a clash in itself. My logic therefore takes me to the 2nd Thursday as now. This isn't going to please everyone, but you can't please everyone all the time. I still think its so wonderful that we have choices to make here in London. Having recently returned from a trip which included Vancouver, Seattle and San Francisco, 3 cities I'd expect to have a thriving scene, I was surprised that they only had 1 club night in a month and a tiny handful (if that) of munches. We are really lucky to have choice. Please take any further comment on date to a separate thread or via memo.
So... Back to the SheBush... More chairs - they said they would sort... More hot girls.... Will attempt to sort.... (no guesses who requested that! Twitterati? I'm emilyrose_uk - see you there?

I know too well that event organisers can't please all the people all the time, so you have to make it something you want to do at a time convinient to you to keep your own motiviation up. As feed back, the only thing that occcured to me that as the room was quite private it would be a good place for some workshops, but maybe that's for the future once it's really established with the pub. Watford Munch is on the 3rd Tuesday of every month. |
