As someone born and raised in continental Europe I am always amazed by the vast amount of people in this country that think they can just withdraw from the European Union and go at it alone, without any repercussion. Island mentality?

Why not? Do you think EU club would start a trade embargo or declare war or something?

Not that I'm in favour, but really nothing bad would happen, except the natural economic consequences of cancelling a whole load of trade agreements.

As you say, there would be economic consequenses as the Eurozone is one of the main export areas - likely to worsen a trade deficit that is already not looking so great. There would be political consequences too.

I feel the drawbacks of leaving the EU would be far greater than any benefits (not that I can think of many benefits)

We run a massive trade deficit with Europe! Whist a trade embargo would hurt both sides, them instigating would be effectively poking themselves in the eye repeatedly.

If we left the EU at worse we would revert to pre existing trade agreements. Any Protectionism we would then face with the EU would be more than cancelled out as the rest of the world would not face that protectionism when trading with us.

So its better out than in.:)

What would they trade with us? The German cars we make?
