So today had nothing to do with kink in any way. It had everything to do with me reconnecting with my parents and building a relationship with them again.
Some of you will know the reasons I was for so long estranged, almost to the point of never wanting anything ever to do with them or the rest of my family. At one point I could gladly of got on with my life without them, and I generally do as I live no-where near any of them anyway.
In some ways that has been a learning and growing experience to stand on my own, build a new life, new friends and so on. Along the way I've met some wonderful friends and had ups and downs.
Today was definitely an up.
Despite it being a long train uncomfortable train journey (London Midland's trains seem really uncomfortable to me) each way, and a tiring and painful day due to being on my feet for ages it was a lovely day.
Why? I went down to London to meet up with my mum and take her to some of the art galleries there, as my father and brother seemingly hadn't the time or inclination to do so and she didn't feel able to go on her own. I was happy to, despite the distance.
I was unsure how the day would turn out. But it turned out to be rather lovely. Starting with a lovely pub lunch where we chatted and talked about recent family events (my nan's sister passing/her funeral and other family stuff I'm usually out of the loop on).
After that took her to the National Gallery. I'd never been there before, and I don;'t think she had either. It was certainly more her thing than mine, but I didn't mind that. Even if art isn't my thing it doesn't hurt to see some I figure. After that got a cup of tea in the Portrait Gallery, which I very much needed by then!
We went around the Portrait Gallery and that was more to my liking I found.
So today I've connected and become closer to my mum. Something I once never thought would happen. It felt good.
My mum wants to do it monthly or bi-monthly. Which could be good.
I left feeling happier than I have in a long time. Its a simple thing, but its made all the difference.
I know parts of this are cryptic, but that is just my way in some respects. The finer details aren't important here I feel, the outcome and future prospects are what are important.
I am certainly very tired and in a lot of pain after a long day.
Next time I'll see about going down on Virgin rather than London Midland as my mum said she'd cover my fare next time.
