OK, can someone explain this to me . . . There seems to be quite a number of kinksters (mostly female identifying) who seem to adore Hello Kitty. I've seen bags, jewellery, brands, tattoos, scarification, clothes, needle work, etc. I've never seen a demographic/sub culture/community (or whatever your preferred term is) that is quite so into Hello Kitty! Hello Kitty may have failed to make an impact back in the 1980s (when she was just one of the Hello Friends) but, somehow seems to be generally riding high on the '80s retro craze among students, many of whom weren't even born in the early-mid '80s. Couple this with the fashion for Manga/Anime characters more generally and this has led to her becoming much more visible, and a steamroller effect seems to have taken hold.
