Just a thought i had today ? do you feel that your fetish is related to something that happened when you were young and moulded you in some way into your kinky DNA? I have a medical fetish which seems to be related to when i was in hopsital when i was 10. just curious to hear from others.

thanks nichty

In my case I would say a set of circumstances in my early and mid childhood explains some of my kinks and personality traits. As children we develop our world view based on what we experience. It's supposed to work that our parents/adults put things into the 'proper' context for us. But if we don't get that, hay presto, we end up with kinks as adults.

Beautiful argument Merrick, so much effort in presenting it ;).

Just for today do not be angry, be greatful. Do your duties fully and be kind to others.

For some it may be the case.

But I think we're generally born kinky, and we discover this at various ages. Perhaps the ones who discover this sexuality when they're older feel it's more likely to be through a sequence of events, but there's still a significant element of kinksters who've been aware of this interest from their earliest memories.

Maybe it's like being gay; events or experiences don't make you gay, just as events or experiences don't make you from being gay to becoming fully heterosexual. They might make an individual want to try; but their fundamental sexuality remains pretty much the same, like it or not.

True. Bad Merrick.

I just read it as inadequate parenting leads to kinky adulthood...

Which I think is bullshit.:)

I think that might be why he put 'proper' in inverted commas.

Interesting comments.

At primary school (1956), when we played with the sand pit we had to wear a red rubber apron; mum used to wear red rubber gloves to do the washing (no washing machines in those days), and the LCC dentist would put a red rubber apron on your lap before he done your teeth.

Of course, if you had teeth taken out, as well as the rubber apron, he would use a horrible black rubber mask to put you to sleep.

There's obviously no link between these events and my liking for rubber these days.

So why didn't everyone from that era who experienced such dentistry develop a liking for rubber then?

Isn't it more likely your experiences were more a trigger for something that was already there?

I agree, but events and experiences probably influence the kind of person you're attracted to. So, whilst there may be an underlying basis for sexuality which is not dictated by the environment, the particular way in which it's expressed could well be moulded by these.

Well, one reason could be that people are receptive to these events at different times. Or it could be that there were other stimuli present to make it more likely that there would be an association between the objects or events and sexual feelings.
