11th August 2011.
Definitely not a forgettable date for us. Our wedding day. I knew I would marry Her one day. Six years after I first met Her, She was finally, truly, mine.
I am actually struggling to put it into words, how magnificent the whole day was.
We were wed at Wortley Hall, Sheffield. Surrounded by people who we love, and who mean a lot to us, for different reasons. Beautiful dark wood dining room, decked in white and injected with handmade lilac touches. Four round tables filled with our loved ones. Some who I am sure still to this day don't realize how much we love them, and for what reasons. The funny part – There were only 6 members of family in total. The rest were friends. Makes me smile to think of this actually – Friends you can choose. We chose well.
Laced up, and very nervous. She left the room before me, Her best man on Her arm, and his daughter, Her bridesmaid. Waving a rose wand, skipping down the stairs in front. He looked so proud. Who wouldn't.
I waited behind. She'd be stood outside, next to the altar, best man at Her side. Waiting for Her bride. I descended the stairs. My father, my best man, on my arm. A very beautiful bridesmaid carrying my chapel train. Between the sweet pea dressed staircase.
The sun burst through the open doorway, I walked towards it. Guests stood on either side, forming an isle. There She was. Stood smiling at me. Sun shining down on Her. I passed a blur of colours, and focused only on Her. I stood beside Her and grasped Her hand. Best men fussing with my dress, spreading the layers out. I noticed the flowers, and the table infront of us, filled with bessings for the ceremony.
The words filled my heart with gladness, erasing the sadness which underlined our day. I was proud, proud to be marrying my Love, my World. It was a joining of friends, who surrounded our lives like sturdy blocks of strength. There when we needed them. They laugh with us when we need to laugh, and cry with us when we need to cry. I have never felt so much warmth, radiating from a group of people, genuine feelings of well wishes and admiration. I turned, mid-ceremony…. And look behind me at the guests. All dressed amazingly. We chose a themed wedding… And they all came through. I am so very amazed still, to this day, how they all put their consciences aside for the day, to make us happy, and dressed up. THAT is what I will always remember. That OUR friends would do that for us. Would yours?
The first thing I saw was a very large rubber nose, attached to Pinocchio's face. Ladies dressed in period gowns, men in smart suits, feather hats, a mad hatter, steampunk, fairies, King & Queen of hearts, Prince Charming, the Artful Dodger, Alice in Wonderland, Cheshire Cat in all his glory… Running around the lawns, chasing fairies and pirates. Giggles and squeals from them, as they ran, and chased.
It was a day for fun. My wife, decked out in gold, Prince Charming with a twist… My mother, dressed as a fairy, wings and all.. Looking very proud. We hired an ice cream van, free for all…. And It was excellent to watch adults and kids alike, enjoying an ice cream. Or three.
We danced to Adele, Feel My Love. The words mean a lot to us. We have spent many a car journey singing to it at the tops of our voices. Sun shades on, with a destination to reach.. Happy.

I have described it to my friends as the best wedding I will ever attend. The love that day was a cloud of fairy dust raining down us. Something so pure you could almost taste it. I will always feel blessed to have been invited to such a special day. It is not what you say or do but the way you say or do it |

Oh! Yes! My bouquet was made of sweeties. My mum made a wishing tree. She picked branches from the woods and painted them white. She made lots of tuny little whishing cards, for people to write on - And hang on the tree. It's set up in our living room! Let go, Jump in, What are you waiting for? It's alright, there's beauty in the break down. It's so amazing here. |
