Calling all Geeks… Geeks & Freeks presents an afternoon and evening event for everyone who considers themselves geeky or freeky in any way, a chance to explore and expand their bodies and minds. The geekiness begins on the fifth Saturday of October from the early time of 15:00 till 22:00... the cost is £7.00 and refreshments and snacks are available throughout the day. This event will be held at the unique new venue M.A.R.S which offers a cafe style area for afternoon geekery with our 'swop shop' and a chance for some vintage gaming you also have 'Area 1' a '1984' style space where only your imagination is the limit, mix in some Alternative tunes for a day that lets you have the freedom to express yourself with other like-minded people. We will also be supporting S.O.P.H.I.E Sophie Lancaster Foundation http://www.sophielancasterfoundation.com , we will have raffles and other fund raising ditties to prise the sheckles from your deep pockets, with an ongoing commitment to raise funds for this very worthwhile cause which is close to our hearts, M.A.R.S is a members only venue but for our initial events you are not required to be a member, you will be the personal guests of the organisers. However membership does bring benefits so please enquire. The M.A.R.S venue is situated in East Manchester, 15 minutes from M60 j23 in the Stalybridge area. Public transport is close to the venue with a train station and bus route within a short walking distance. Yes a lot of thought has gone into this event, and with any Geeky person lots of ideas on how to make the most use of the 'time and space' so to speak. I am not Geeky at all, but I do like some of the music choices that are being suggested to be played as a background, being a baby punk in 1977 i may throw in a few of my own suggestions as this event is for people of all ages and genders. I will not be taking part in any Vintage Gaming, i am total rubbish at that sort of stuff, but i will be tucked away in the kitchen on 'refreshments duty', so come and say "hi" to me. Evi x | |

Traditionally the geeky path is one often walked alone. We would like to offer a welcoming social environment where people can get together and share their geeky passions, without judgement. Yes you can play games at home, but we think this will be more fun. We hope that Geeks and Freeks will be a place where a newbie would know that he or she would have something in common with the other guests, an icebreaker if you like. But saying that the event is not restricted to just newbies. During the day we will have numerous geeky activities including gaming, CCG, etc. Also a session of the pen and paper RPG Paranoia (Google it if you've never played, it is usually hilarious.), possibly The Call of Cthulhu if we have a darker crowd. If you have any special requests please memo us or post in this thread and we will discuss. Is it like a Fet Club? Well M.A.R.S is a unique venue superbly equipped for play, with equipment you've only dreamed of. Fet Club does not do it justice. So if you meet the geek or geek-ette of your dreams you can take them off and make them your Captain Kirk in chains or captive Return of the Jedi Leia (or vampire, or Ewok if you're a furry We respect the right to privacy of our guests, and every event is by guest-list only so we will not be disclosing an exact address in an open forum, we hope you understand. Sorry i have to disagree with Royalle there i can not help with information on this event....as stated i am on cafe duty that day....i cannot help in geek related enquiries...in fact, almost all of the post Royalle made has left me confuzzled Especially the bit at the bottom in foreign! i can however tell you that there will be lashings of tea and coffee, soft drinks and tasty snacks and we will be doing a little raffle with the proceeds going to www.sophielancasterfoundation.com which we wish to support on an ongoing basis. i can however pass on any messages to the guys to contact people. erm...."may the force we with you"!!!...see i tried! lol
