Mornington Crescent a game of association and improvisation; originated by I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue Radio 4 show! This version also has the Marie Antoinette rule of 1776 and The 1899 Oscar Wilde rule included. The rules: 1) First player has to pick a station which isn't a mainline station or underground intersection, within the London Underground Zones 3 and 6. Ealing Broadway would not be a Legal move since it is both a underground intersection and mainline station, however Perivale (Zone 4) would be a legal move. 2) The next player would have to then play from Perivale and move accordingly. Perivale to Hangar Lane, legal since it's still on the Central line and is into Zone 3, Perivale to Greenford would be legal as long as you stayed on the Central line. 3) A player can change lines at intersection or change zones once in a move. If player 1 decided to go to Greenford from Perivale, player 2 would then have to choose between staying on the Central Line or switching to the mainline. If player 2 changed to mainline and went from Greenford to West Acton (reached via mainline and then switching at Ealing Broadway) that move would be illegal since player to changed twice. A legal move would be Greenford to Ealing Broadway and then passed onto the next player. 4) If a player ends their turn on an intersection, the next player can decide if to carry on on the same line or switch. Rule 3 applies to this situation 5) When a player ends their turn on a mainline station, the next player may choose to jump to another mainline station within the same zone before choosing which line they're on. 6) If more than 2 players are playing then the 1899 Oscar Wilde rule applies: The 1899 Oscar Wilde rule: Mainline to underground line switches are only allowed at the following stations: Ealing Broadway, Paddington, Harrow & Wealdstone, Finsbury Park and Barking 7) Under the Marie Antoinette rule of 1776, if a player picks/reaches/passes over Finsbury Park on their birthday, the player must recite the following passage from Oscar Wilde's “The Harlot's House”: Like wire-pulled automatons, Slim silhouetted skeletons Went sidling through the slow quadrille. The took each other by the hand, And danced a stately saraband; Their laughter echoed thin and shrill. Sometimes a clockwork puppet pressed A phantom lover to her breast, Sometimes they seemed to try to sing. 8) First player to Mornington Crescent wins. | ||
