Its just as logical as having September, the seventh month, as the ninth in the calendar, followed by the eighth, October, as the tenth, the ninth, November, as the eleventh and the tenth, December, as the twelfth. Rampant Domination by a couple of Romans to blame for that.

Bring back the Napoleonic decimal calendar, I say. Ten day weeks and ten months IIRC...and months named after flowers and stuff.

Although the clock system of the Sumarians is quite sensible, being divisible by 360 and so forth. No need for change there.

Please remember that any references to cheese makers is not meant to be taken literally abut actually refers to any manufacturer of dairy products...

A common french system for calculating dates is called the camembert. A local mispronounciation of calendar. Hence CE: Camembert Era and BCE: Before Camembert Era (the original french uses different acronyms because they have a funny language)

The French are very clever people they always have a different word every thing.

Citation, please, or I call 'bollocks'.

"While shepherds watched their flocks by night" - in December the flocks wouldn't have needed watching, they'd have been penned in, under cover. Even in that part of the world. So I'm told.

The monetary system pre-1970 seemed quite sensible too, the pound being divisible by 240 and thus a pound could be equally divided between 2,3,4,6,8,10,12,15,16,20,24,30,40,60 or 120 people. I was always fascinated that £1 could be divided equally between both fifteen and sixteen people!

Mind you, twelve quid can be divided between the same numbers these days. Not that one's share would buy as much as the same share of a pound pre-decimilisation.
