A personal trainer is rather a lot cheaper than a pro dom.

I can see where you are coming from. A form of mental satisfaction from a gym workout.

However I don't get a stiffy from going to the gym. Unless of course a lycra lady decides to deposit herself in front of me. Such teases they are...

:-p

Do people regularly deposit themselves in their lycra in gyms these days?

Well, as my friends on here will vouchsafe, I am no prude but...I think that that's a practice that should be stamped out immediately!

I can't imagine Mr Banatyne depositing in his lycra. Can you?

The manager at your local Bannatynes may have a few words to say if you are observed doing star jumps with your barley corn sticking up!

Is having a workout at the gym a substitute or at least a temporary fix for having not played? I must admit I don't know what I would do without regular strenuous physical exercise. Although the sensual aspect is absent, I find the physical aspect after a workout, albeit not as intense, is similar to that after a play session. Endorphins... don't you just love em?

Well:-

Gym - a healthy workout.

BDSM - a healthy workout with added depravity, sexual tension, erotic fantasy and thrill.

Now let me think about that a moment ... Erm ... I think BDSM gets the nod.

Oh believe me, if given the choice play would win hands down in favour of the gym everytime; it's a no-brainer. But for those that regularly visit the gym surely it's a worthy second best. Perhaps I should have phrased the question as "Is the gym a substitute when play isn't possible”.

Ah, yes, love that release of endorphins and feeling of achievement after a workout.

I guess there is a parallel to play for me, in the sense that I've done something physical and mentally stimulating/challenging and relieved some stress...

Although for me (speaking as a Dominant), being on the receiving end of an excellent, but demanding, no-nonsense personal trainer is not my typical D/s play scenario. I'm used to 'me' being in charge, and it's a challenge and through gritted teeth that I find myself having to yield to instruction at times. I have to accept he knows what's best for me. It's not always easy when he's pushing me and I'm tired. I love it though, love the results, especially mentally, but have often wondered if it's a bit like submission (well, my idea of submission), in the sense that you have to muster a lot of strength to push yourself through it at times, even though you enjoy it.

A related question: do regular visits to a gym make one more or less likely to enjoy recreational sex? I think more likely what do others think?

More likely I would say, despite some days following a workout when the physical rest is welcome. Regular visits to the gym (as does play with intensive pain) tend to make me feel more invigorated and aroused, and less lethargic and stressed afterwards; some of the key ingredients for a strong libido. :)

I bore this in mind when I got back from the gym today. No it isn't, but it does make you horny. I'd say it's a good warm up for play. Although all I really wanted afterwards was the sort of play where I don't have to do a lot apart from lying back and letting the sub get busy down there ;-)

Put me on a pedestal, but be there to catch me if I fall.

Not a substitute but the brain chemistry is probably very similar.

Agreed. A kettlebell won't slog you in the stomach (if it does, you're doing it wrong), but I find that in the long-distance absence of play that vigorous exercise will at least get the endorphins enough to stop craving-centric insanity.

I'm a firm believer in runner's high; not to be underestimated!

It's not only a substitute for play, it's an opportunity to dress up a bit!

Are we talking early 20th century strong man leopard skin leotard and fake Mexican curly moustache?
