Birthdays ... (14)

Can bring me a mixed bag of emotions. I don't usually relish them, but was quite looking forward to this one and it has turned out to be a good one, so far.

It has been all I could have hoped for, time with people I love, doing things I love. I am a sensitive person and when people make an effort for me, collectively, or alone, I really feel it. I think I must be silly at times, I wear my heart on my sleeve, too much so I'm often told, and they knew as they watched me unwrap stuff that I was going to cry. I always cry on my birthday, without fail. I'd even remembered to wear waterproof mascara this morning as a precaution.

Got some lovely gifts, and had some lovely food with those who care. It's nice to break bread together. This is what really matters. My support network, my chosen few, my nearest and dearest . Sadly, a few are missing from that now, but with me in spirit. One extra was missing today though, and I was surprised at that, a little sad, but maybe it was a lesson I had to learn. It was his decision and it was clear, it felt a little unecessary, but he can live with it.

So, a new year, a new age ... being 42 isn't half as bad as turning 40 was, that just seemed scary. I see friends who have blossomed in their 40's and I feel it's happening to me too, it's as if you have all the wisdom, but without all the pressure of your 30's. Life just seems clearer lately, even though there are missing pieces, still.

Roll on Saturday, I have yet another birthday treat in store. Maybe it's true what they say about karma after all ...
