Talking with my friend in new york last night, I asked would she be attending any 9/11 memorials. Her reply, 9/11 was nothing to do with me so why would I !! I am still not sure what I said but tears streamed down my face.

Maybe she didn't mean it like that..... Memorials to a lot of Americans are intended for families and friends. The concept of leaving flowers & teddy bears & going to visit tragic sites is a bit foreign to a lot of us. We (speaking of where I lived) visit official "Memorial Sites" but don't really go to "memorial services" unless we had someone directly involved. Of course, I'm speaking of where I lived - not generalising the whole nation. @Play_Space - Next party is Friday, September 23 from 930 - 3 am. Maybe your friend would like to say that to all the relatives of all the UK citizens that were killed .... and the families of a few dead soldiers .... |

I would bet most New York residents won't attend. There are often memorials for disasters that happen over hear. I don't attend them or feel any need to attend them, do you? It was a very tragic event, but it is history now. At least people have memorials to attend if they choose to do so. They don't and should not feel that they aught to go if they don't wish to. That is what America and the West fight for and stand for, freedom of choice. If your friend does not wish to go or feel the need to go to a memorial why should she? Gary x.
