I set myself a goal, or he did, that i would run 50 miles over July and August - the idea being that i run a mile a day, with a few days off for impractical or health reasons.
I made a chart, which was like a winding path, cut into segments for each mile. I've been putting a red shiny star in each segment for each mile i've run. There is also motivational distances of what 50 miles looks like. I've written on it: Manchester to Leeds, Kendal to Carlisle, Birmingham to Stoke, Newcastle to Whitby, Castleford to Hull and London to Milton Keynes. (I thought it might help, but who runs to Castleford or Milton Keynes??) For each 5 miles i coloured in the square with my crayons and at the 25 mile square, i put zig zag lines around it to make it all special and momentous. It's ver cute.
Anyway, unfortunately, i have failed in my mission. I've done 40 miles, which is the equivalent of Castleford to North Ferriby or Milton Keynes to Corby and i don't even know what that means.
Tanos has said he'll help me make it to 50 and beyond, but the mile a day challenge has ended, cos soon the nights will start to get darker and colder, so it might just be on my days off or perhaps on days i finish at lunch time, rather than here, there and everywhere as it has been for the past 2 months.
Anyway, that was a boring blog post, wasn't it? Sorry.

How bloody brilliant for you, 40 miles, well done. I know I wouldn't be able to do it. I know you are probably disapointed but don't let that stop you appreciating what you achieved.

How have you quantified 'failure'?

Hard, but worth the effort. Tomorrow, or maybe later on today, you will see that again.

Your plan mentions 'when practical' so presumably it hasn't been practical to collect the galaxy of stars you were hoping for.

Yeah, sometimes i was busy moaning or eating cake... (And sometimes it's been pissing down/i've been on holiday/i've been jet lagged...) I'll get there and i'm not moaning per se, it's just a shame i didn't get there in the time set. x Quick Lynn, run, they're sex people

North Ferriby sounds nicer than Hull. "Me and Kevin, we're just not the same"

It's all good, it means you still have a challenge to beat your personal best without getting silly about it. |
