Old Comics. (24)

I came across this page today that reminded me of quite how dodgy old comic books could be: Dear Golden-Age Wonder Woman

Yes, it's Wonder Woman, who started out as essentially a BDSM doll in comic books, but still.

Does anyone else remember any kinky stuff from comics when they were young?

Obviously, there's stuff like Lost Girls now, but, I'm meaning back in the days when comics were written exclusively for kids, or in recent kids comic books.

In later life I was always fascinated (nay, disturbed - oh who am I kidding? slightly aroused) by Xena - Warrior Princess but I'm not sure if she was ever in the comic book genre.

She did. The covers were generally photos and/or involved some girl-on-girl erotica with her and her little playmate.

I've also remembered some definite voyeuristic elements in Thrudd the Barbarian, the wonders of the Judge Dredd strips from Heavy Metal being reprinted elsewhere, some costumes from the X-Men being quite definitely bondage-wear...

... and some scenes from The X-Men in the early '90s involving Magneto engaging in non-consensual breath play with Moira MacTaggart...

As for the X-Men one, the Moira MacTaggart/Magneto bit was during the first story in The X-Men, also known as Vol.2 as it split off from The Uncanny X-Men, back in 1991. The BDSM costumes, well, Charles Xavier's wife (the Shi'ar Princess-Majestrix Lilandra) and her courtiers from the mid '80s with harnesses, cuffs with rings on, and such.

don't forget the New Mutants. Illyana's use of the Scourceress' wall in the Asgard special was definatly right up there re non-consentual bondage.

As with hentai, it allows the imagination to combine with some very special artwork to produce an individual response from each person viewing it – it “frees the mind” - albeit to release what was already there.

And in doing so, it also often gives an insight into the artists personal fetish - for those who choose to look – and pehaps also to compare …..
