Am sitting here in a state of shock.
my bedroom is a complete burnt-out shell....
everything gone....
bed with all the brand new bedding .... carpet .... furniture .... curtains .... cage .... all our floggers .... my leather wrist and ankle cuffs .... cordless phone plus three mobile phones .... all the party stuff i bought for my daughters 21st birthday including her presents and cards .... clothes .... lamps .... my Stephen King hardback collection which included four valuable first editions
The damage is quite extensive and it spread to the landing too....all the carpet on the stairs ruined.
All gone.
Am writing this now as Master has forbidden me to go back upstairs until he has stripped the room. He allowed me up once and i broke down. i just couldn't believe what i was seeing. i had been in there lying on the bed writing an essay for Master only a hour before and everything was fine then.
Once the essay was finished i came downstairs to do some work on the pc. my virus scanner alerted me of a virus, i ran a check. Halfway through the scan all the power went off, power-cut in the street again....we get so many of them around here for some reason. Master went to the bedroom to fetch candles (everything still fine then too) and then continued to play chess with my youngest by candlelight.
Then the smoke alarms went off....all three of them at once. my first thought was it was the candles that had set them off but then Master suddenly shot up and bolted up the stairs. i wondered what the hell was going on till i heard him yelling "GET OUT! GET OUT NOW!!!!"
i realised there was a fire and quickly herded the kids out of the house. We managed to call the fire brigade from our neighbours house but i could hardly get the words out of my mouth. i banged on their door frantically and when they answered i came out with a load of gobbledy-gook....i had lost the ability to speak coherently.
We are all safe and sound i'm happy to say. The kids are all sleeping at friends and family for a couple of nights. Master, my son and my son-in-law are currently doing a massive clean-up operation, i am being plied with irish coffee to calm my nerves. i am surprisingly calm....for now at least but i suppose it will all hit me tomorrow.
Thank god for decent smoke alarms!

How awful for you. Commiserations. No-one hurt is a good outcome. I see many things which seem irreplaceable have gone, and sorry to hear that, but hug those you love and be thankful. Poor you. Remember, you have to look UP. A star *will* move. DT x Edited 10 Feb 05, 12:16 AM by AfternoonT

Smoke alarms are so ruddy important. HEY EVERYONE, DID YOU HEAR ME - GO AND CHECK YOURS NOW! I know it must be heartbreaking for you to lose so much, but you have all got out alive, it may be a small mercy atm, but a mercy it is. I would offer to come and help, but you are a fair way away. I am sure everyone on here will feel the same way though. HUgs Who says I can't be a feminist *and* a submissive?

shaheena, What a horrible thing to happen but, thankfully, your smoke alarms were in good working order and alerted you to the danger. The possessions that you've lost can be replaced but you saved the most important things....you and your family! To my shame, I don't have smoke alarms in my home but by this time tomorrow I shall have so....thank you for your post, it may save more lives. nikki

Get one(s) wired to the mains as well. More expensive I will admit, but you never have to worry about changing the batteries. Only yesterday I was having a conversation about this in work and discovered that most of my colleagues in work had smoke alarms but failed to ever check or change the batteries. mine are all mains ones with battery back up if theres ever a power cut those without - buy them today, make it top priority - or ring the fire brigade, who in most areas will come round, fit them, check them etc, usually for free and the fire - absolutely awful to hear, the shocks going to hit you and linger, but everything is either replaceable or permanent as a memory (photos etc) - you and your family cant be replaced chin up chuck x |
