On yachts one sometimes sees rope grabbers that will let a rope slide one way but not another. Has anyone put these to nefarious use? Any other ideas for restraining someone where struggling makes their situation worse?

Long time since I used them but these might help.
They are called Jam Cleats and come in various sizes for different size ropes. See Here You tension the rope and then press it down into the cleat. This allows for a quick release by just pulling up on rope and lifting it out of the cleat. There are some that you jam into a cleat using a sort of wedge. These are more difficult to release in a hurry. Edited 21 Aug 11, 12:09 AM by Hatari |

I believe you are thinking of "ratchet blocks" |

Yes,I have used ratchet blocks for semi-suspension.They work well when the subject is just lifted high enough to be able to stand on tip toe and then has the choice of whether to take their weight on their feet or transfer to the wrists. They end up doing a shuffle between the two and the results can be good fun to watch. |

Ijust be careful of using climbing ones (ascenders/jumars) as you have to be able to take the weight off and slide some more rope up and through to release. That could be impossible if you've got a sub attached, so care would need to be taken with the set up. Visit my blog - www.journerotica.com |

They might be called jam cleats in the US, but in England you'll have more luck if you google cam cleats. And yes I have used them in conjuction with weights on a self tightening bondage bed. Owner of The Croppery Dungeon and Breakfast. Organises The St Leonards munch. |

I use rope ratchets, which I suppose could be used with heavy-ish weights to do the job. I normally use them to apply tension slowly, with a satisfyingly loud click! Very quick and easy release for safety-conscious doms. They are made in the USA, but can be ordered from Eliza Tinsley in the UK via Hardware stores. Two sizes are available. Not recommended for full suspension but very sturdy. It all beats the shit out of me... Edited 21 Aug 11, 12:03 PM by tightrope35 |

As a long time sailor I can safely say that I have had much fun using jamming blocks ratchet pulleys cam blocks and even lever cam blocks for the purpose they were intended for ....But as a maker of dungeon and generally kinky furniture I have had even more fun Pick the right fitting for the load you intend to hold and dont forget they are made in all sizes from smally dinghy (newbie) to ocean racer (Pro sub) so I would highly recommend sailing (Bondage) to anyone who is looking for some serious fun ........Good sailing and fair winds to you all |
