This isn't really new. Hell if you call yourself an environmentalist in the UK then some grubby copper will try to lure you into sabotaging a nuclear power station. The government has committed a lot of time energy and treasure into the pursuit of fringe political groups. On the plus side, it's only the government. It's the Murdoch scrutiny that mainstream politicians are exposed to that really gives me the chills. The lesson I think is know your place and don't be political, and if you remain apolitical, then nobody will have to mess with you. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. |
