Up at 6am this morning. Slightly flustered as I knew I had something important to do, but I couldn't remember what for a few minutes! Came downstairs, bebe was online, so chatted to him for half an hour. Not encouragement, rudey stuff! And he told me to have cereal, so I did, LOL. Faeryboi arrives, and off we set to Lunnun.
Found Battersea Park relatively quickly, and a free parking space just outside, yee haa! A brief stroll to the enclave, where we found line dancing, a bucking bronco for the kids, performers on stilts and all sorts of entertainment. The predicted 9.30 start didn't happen, and instead we had a long warm up to western country music, and a speech from the organiser. £70 million raised from the walks so far, that's bloody impressive! Gaby Roslin was there for no apparent reason, she wasn't walking. The lady who decorated numerous bras (and beautifully too) to raise money was given a big cheer, as was the 80 year old power walker - who later amazed us by literally speeding past us at a cracking pace! Finally, 10:15 and we were off.
A great walk. We went through Battersea Park, St James Park, Grren Park, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. Despite having lived and worked in London for many years, much of it was new to me, and made the walking that more pleasurable. As did having Faeryboi for company all the way. At the halfway mark, we sat down by the river and scoffed lunch, which was a packet of ham in my instance. When we got to 8 miles, we learned that the pro power walkers had just crossed 13 miles, LOL!
The last 3 miles were harder going. My back hurt quite a bit, and my hip too, so painkillers and anti-inflammatories popped. However, the worst bit was getting back inside the park, it seemed like we walked round and round forever before we reached the finish line. But we did it, and we have shiny medals for our efforts ![]()
Coffee, ice creams and wine, hasty removal of trainers, lying on the grass chatting to the other girls.............it was so wonderful to stop!
Thank you to everybody who sponsored me. Thank you to boo for his texts and encouragement. Thank you to Faeryboi for being daft enough to go with another one of my nutty ideas. Home, happy, and there's a bath with MY name on it!
