I had a result last week

I parked in a bus lane in St Albans, i knew it was wrong but thought i could get away with it as i needed to get in a shop and the nearest "legal" place to park was a 10 minute walk away.

As im in the queue to pay i saw a warden next to my car and to be honest resigned myself to a fine.

When i walked out there was no ticket on the car but the guy was over the road. I went over and asked him why he didnt give me a ticket, his reply was " I thought it was more important to report the cars on the other side of the road as they were blocking the traffic".

He told me i shouldnt park where i was, i then thanked him, got back in my car with a realisation it was my lucky day...............and you know what!!!,. I wont park there again because if he saw me id bizarrely feel quite guilty.

Just a thought..you parked in a bus lane?...not sure mate..but here in London..people that drive/park in bus lanes usually get a £100 fine..it's the cameras that catch you...

Yours is not to reason why, yours is but to do or cry.

there's not enough bus lanes to justify cameras in St Albans, it's up to the individual NCP employees to give you the ticket

My system with parking tickets and all forms of penalty notice is to appeal.

With parking tickets are the lines painted correctly? recent road works, resurfacing can create confusion. Any reason however tenuous to be able to blow smoke and create doubt. Also not always do the meter maidens get it right. Maybe you are OK to park there Tuesdays & Thursdays daytime and Rita thinks its Wednesday.

I write as if I have some legal training and hint I might be the sort of nutter who will take this to the European court of Human rights. Supply as much paperwork as possible if I'm claiming that is was loading related, POs, invoices etc.

I found this link from hertfordshire council.

Apparently you are libel to a £60 fine if found parked in a bus lane in moor end road.....

Not exactly sure why I am interested in this post but I was a parking inforcement appeals officer..1999. so slightly out of date with current legislation.

Just to say the inforcement of bus lanes in our town is monitored by camera's. 24/7. If a vehical is photographed in the bus lane it's number plate is taken and a penalty notice is sent to owner..owner has the opportunity to come see the photograph evidence. They also have the adudication office to appeal to...but and heres the big but..all the road signs are there..no cars etc etc..so the council will never back down on the that one....even if people go to the " it's me uman rights innit court " lol.

Strange that I see post office cars/vans/ambulances/dust carts/milk floats etc etc all using bus lanes..lol

Yours is not to reason why, yours is but to do or cry.

Ahh but there are regulations as to the size of warning sings and strict rulings as to the the size and placement of lettering. Some councils still have signs in place that are out of date and unenforceable so don't always assume you are in the wrong.

Out of eight tickets issued to me in a mixture of private car parks and public highways I have contested all but one and been successful. [I conceded that with the one I had no defence and so paid the then £50].
