Anyone have a particular favourite and know the reasons why? ![]()
Obviously, favourite lenses on full frame sensor cameras will not necessarily be the same as the best ones for the 1.6x smaller sensors.

My Macro Lens, 100L 2.8, the reason should be obvious as should the reason why.

I want to get a macro lens but like the look of the 50mm f2.5 macro which I think will be a more convenient focal length for my copying work.

Depends what I'm shooting. 100mm f2.8 Macro non-IS for most things I shoot. Occasionally the 50mm f1.8 For motorsports the 100-400mm. I have some Sigma lenses but just cant get on with them anymore, The image quality isn't good enough on the 5D MkII, the edge sharpness of Sigmas is just bollocks.

The 100mm is an awesome lens. I too can't really use Sigma anymore. The one I keep going back to though is my first one - 85mm 1.8. I have some other lovely lenses, but it seems to work for the kind of thing I like. I've gone off my 50mm 1.4 a little bit as it is very soft wide open, but I have a 24mm to play with now which shows a lot of promise.

On the smaller sensor that would be 160mm which is too long for what I want. I've seen some very good write ups on certain Sigma lenses (not all of them) so it is a matter of checking test reports first I guess and I would probably only buy a Sigma lens where there isn't a corresponding Canon lens for what I want I take your point about edge sharpness but for EF lenses I won't be using the edges. However some EFS lenses are weak at the edges like the original 18-55mm EFS lens that I have been using for 7 years which I can now replace possibly with a 17-40mm lens I'm not sure yet.

Agree the 50 1.4 does get soft wide open, can be good for portaits on a crop sometimes I like my sigma 10-20 3.5, could be a bit faster, but for the money it is a good lense. I often use it for interiors when trudling round NT properties and such like. But my 100L macro has converted me to L lense, will upgrade my 70-300 IS to the L version when cash allows
