Yes they can and often are but who can actually prove that something that has been written on the boards or a weblog is actually the truth?

Re-writing my earlier gobbley-gook. Firstly, let's address the Sorceror issue - he is not anti-PD or anti-prostitution but he does write long posts full of information and that can be a tad difficult for some people to follow properly. The rest of the time he may sit on Ash's mantlepiece like a My Little Pony but I couldn't possibly comment. Back on topic, when I was a first port of call for new people on the scene I would caution them about what information they disclosed to new friends and what informaton they put on the net. There are a number of things to consider and shit hitting the fan some time in the future is one of those. Your IC posts could become of interest to the police for reasons other than you actual being a suspect - what if you are a victim? - but the police do not have the resources in time, money or man power to wade through a website in the hope of finding some sort of possible crime. An self-professed interest in BDSM would only ever be circumstantial evidence of something, it is not a crime in itself. A year ago I posed the question on here: During the time that the police had my IC password, did anyone get an unexpected knock on the door as a result of what they may have stumbled upon? To my knowledge, the only thing they came across of interest was 'deformed consent' which was due to poor timing on spoo's part. They certainly weren't bothered about my PD work, the munch I co-organised or the sex-industry boyfriend. They weren't even interested in IC, just the network sites I used which obviously included this one. Decide how 'out' you want to be, be aware that your privacy can be down to the luck of the gods and stay within the law. Please send any questions regarding my own police matter to my memo box as I cannot clarify further on here. ETA: they were looking out for me and it was not a BDSM matter. But it isn't a full moon, it is at 80% waning gibbous, ie full moon was 2 and a half days ago at 06:50 on the 17th. Rohypnol means never having to say "Would you like another coffee?".

No but it can be construed as a threat, or as threatening behaviour, which is largely what the point of the OP was...

I love you Bohnanza But how do you know they didn't escape on the full moon and then wait 24 hours to post on this thread because it took them that long to get all the buckles on the nice white canvas jacket undone? Oh and Holly, sorry the 'rolling eyes' comment wasn't aimed at you but at the re-emergence of furry cat gut.

The OP is right to remind us. When trouble occurs, Ex's are a frequent factor. Backlash has and is handling cases where a vengeful Ex went to the police. When posts and particularly images exist, that complicates life considerably. Third parties often find such evidence alarming, and hard to interpret. Even where the CPS decide not to proceed, a lot of pain is experienced in the meanwhile, and not of the endorphin generating type. So it pays to be aware of the trail one chooses to leave behind, online or off.
Wrong. It happens. Again, it is usually when someone, disgruntled, has drawn the venue to the attention of the police. But very seldom and in our experience is not a significant risk. Most promoters get wind that something might happen and cancel the event, as a sensible precaution. They tend not to advertise why.
