Yes! I thought Night Watch was really well done. Compared with the book it could have been fleshed out a bit more, and a whooole load of sex was edited down, but still awesome.

Brian Sewell is an utter knob. In the words of Pater I 'burn always with a hard gem like flame' as a femme who's primarily a top. Apparently though as a woman I cannot be an aesthete, and as a queer one I'm afflicted by the terrors of sodom (aka living in Manchester).

While we are on that topic of self-hating queens,Gods and Monsters is an excellent queer film. Don't watch it alone/when feeling sad, you may want to jump in front of a bus.

I love that soaps have more non-straight characters in these days. Though Corrie is "TOO GAY!" apparantly at the moment. *eyeroll* I don't watch it, but all this who-ha in the media is really annoying me. I read someone that out of 60 or so characters, only 4 are gay/bi and there's a man who cross-dresses. Why all the fuss?

Shortbus features live sex, and 'graphic' images of all kinds of people getting it on, but it never becomes pornography. At many points the sex is actually a medium for the comedy/pathos in the film. Or as Justin Bond puts it when looking out over an orgy room 'It's like the 60s...but with less hope'.

Thanks for reccommending this. I managed to find a copy this week and watched it. Really enjoyed it. Those actresses who have been in the L-Word pop up everywhere don't they?!

Just finished watching The Night Watch today. It's a BBC drama set in 1940s adapted from the Sarah Waters' novel of the same name. (She's the author of Fingersmith & Tipping the Velvet.) Never seen a LGB WW2 drama before. It's good stuff!

I have this on DVD, I love it! And "But I'm a Cheerleader" is also quite funny if you take it with a pinch of salt. Quite cheesy too :)

There's always one, and if I'm in the vicinity, it's probably me.

Can't believe I haven't mentioned Bad Girls yet. The Nicki/Helen relationship was a real favourite for me. As a young teen it was pretty much the only lesbian relationship on TV at the time.

I also managed to track down that episode of The L-Word I mentioned. The one where Alice gets put in restraints and delightfully tormented by a vampire is in the third season. It's episode 5 called "Lifeline" and it's about 40 mins in. Not that I've watched it too many times to know that or anything... *cough* *cough* ; )

I watched the film Bloomington recently which is about a teacher/collage student relationship. It was ok, and their relationship had a really interesting & twisted dynamic to it but overall I found the pacing quite slow.

For student/teacher stuff though I would always choose to watch Loving Annabelle. I love that film & the soundtrack!

As I was flicking through Radio Times this week I noticed there are a few LGBT radio programmes coming up on the BBC.

  • Out in the World: a Global Gay History, Sunday (today), Radio 3, 7:45pm
  • It's My Story: Tom Robinson - Getting Bi, Monday 19th, Radio 4, 8:00pm

I was happy to read about these as it's nice to see the BBC getting some queer content and it was also nice to see that the Tom Robinson programme was listed in Radio Time's "Today's Choices" column. Whooot! : D

The event: The movie MILK.

*goes off to set record on Skybox*

(If you've never heard of it, it's not about moo juice but the American gay activist with a dairy related name, Harvey Milk.)

Some more media things either out now or coming up next week.

Mark Gatiss was on Desert Island Discs on Sunday. He talks a bit about his partner and civil partnership during the interview. I really enjoyed the show and his selection of music. You can listen to it here - - > http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/desert-isla...

Jeanette Winterson (who wrote Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit) has some shows on Radio 4 from next Monday to Friday called Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal. The shows are abridged readings from her memoirs about the abuse she suffered during her childhood.

Finally there is a "lesbian vampire love story" called Carmilla on Radio 4 extra next Tuesday.

OMG, I love that film! I ordered it off the internet when I was about 17 or so, absolutely adore it. You can tell it was done on a low budget, but it's mint. I was obsessed with a female teacher at my school from being 15 to... Oh wait, no I'm still obsessed with her, so it was like my ultimate fantasy.
