From The National Portrait Gallery competition T&C: 'photography concerned with portraying people with emphasis on their identity as individuals' |
So, I've just put my entry in for the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize this year, and it got me thinking about what I fancy trying to shoot for next years competition.
I'm interested in the concept of a hooded portrait, but it strikes me as almost an impossibly difficult thing to approach and photograph with regards to it's success as a "portrait".
Has anyone produced a portrait that features someone hooded or otherwise devoid of features? Or has anyone seen another artist do it? Care to post a link?
Or does anyone have any general thoughts about how it would be accomplished?

I was really talking really about some sort of fetish style hood where a large proportion of the subjects identity is removed. How would you photograph someones identity if you can't see it? | |

By making that hidden aspect a core point of their identity - a la 'gimp' in Pulp fiction? ... Or Zorro and his mask, for that matter...
