Yes katena, you are right. Not only that some dykes and Gay men would rather not be seen as kinky, which is their right too!
However...maybe an event...stalls..workshops etc would be fabbyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Hey all this agreeing with katena, what is going on, but yes I am with you there too. Who says I can't be a feminist *and* a submissive?

From personal observation of the Manchester scene -- simply I must admit from reading IC. There does appear to be a lot of politics involved (and whilst my first love is party politics I'm sad to see that, if my impressions are right) As far as I , and I know others, connected with Unfettered are concerned , we are an all embracing organisation for those interested in BDSM and Fetish of all kinds regardless of sexual orientation or preferences. Yet somehow I get the impression from some quarters that we are "stepping on someone else's patch" when we say that we might be interested in having some sort of KinkFest in the North West.

I have heard nothing but support for an event such as kinkfest being held up here. Whose patch are you referring to ? Its our scene, one and all, it doesnt belong to any particular group or individual. We are not always going to agree on everything, that doesnt stop us working together towards common goals. MG

I doubt there's any more scene politics in the north-west than there is in any other region of the UK. There has generally been a lot of good feedback up here about a fringe event or events - at present from talking to others the consensus seems to be that several events organised by various groups is the most likely and easiest way forward. There's no reason why we people shouldn't be able to coordinate and cooperate on this.

Much as I hate to disagree with another member of the Kinkfest team, Thunder, we have in fact had a lot of support from various local scene "worthies" and club promoters for offer of Unfettered support for events round a sort of kinky fringe, or a NW Kinkfest even

The feeling I am getting from around the area is that the fringe event should be all organisations working together including Unfettered, SM Pride, SM Dykes and all the parties and munches. The reason of that is we dont want the event to be held back by cross group /internal politics

We are a friendly lot up norf yanno...this mis-conception that we have more politics than any other area in the uk is just ludicrous. Manchester is a major bdsm/fetish forum...we have lots of events on..some i havent even got to yet and im a bit of a scene social butterfly! The way i see it....pardon me if im wrong but this was just my take on it....was that the float idea was suggested..and then viewed as maybe not the best idea and the other idea of a 'fringe event' was suggested which i think has been accepted by the majority around. So....where to now if this is the case? We are nearly in March and i think the wheels need to start getting into motion. Maybe if you want to help organise some part of this then you need to pop your head up and then everyone needs to meet up? "Dont close your eyes and picture me as perfect. Open your eyes and see whats in front of you. Im not perfect.. Im Me.. a woman and a human being."

My first sub was even further norf than you
Mind you being called petal by friendly people in shops did harm my Domly street cred
Unfettered currently is exploring a number of locations both norf and sarf. I know one of the "crew" is discussing with someone a location for a potential KinkFest close by. I personally have no problems (and nor does the rest of the "crew" from experience) in running something in co-operation with others, in fact as most of us are from the sarf it's vital that local people are involved in planning and implementing

I wouldn't say it's politics more respect. My main concern was that we would bring an "unwelcome" hetrosexual aspect to a LBG event. WE may be all encompassing, but when an event is dubbed GAY Pride, do you think the organisers of the event in any area north or south would want people maybe diluting their event. I was expressing an opinion of caution that we have to respect other groups boundaries until agreed otherwise. As far as I can tell we would love to have a sort of Kinkfest around here and would like it to be an "all embracing" event. So to do this I would agree with you Thunder_12 we need to put politics aside and work together as a community. We need to be able to do something for us all!!!!
