Ok - I know I am not in Manchester ( or London ) , but I just want to say that I very like the idea of all of the groups working together , I think this is the way forward.

There are already a few Manchester clubs looking at a float Pride time, and also a fun raiser event later in the year, so yes, the Couch Club is very interested in a fetish Manchester wide event.

A number of people keep mentioning a float. Apart from the expense that could probably be better used elsewhere, what would a float achieve? Public awareness...in what format? Educating people about us at a realistic level is whats needed. Can anyone judge the media response to a float, positive/negative? How would the council respond? Could it give them a reason to search out the clubs concerned and kick up a fuss like they did with lash. If we can hold an event for us initially prove it can be done, to give the community in the North something, (ya know from small acorns...etc) then next time round consider some public awareness. It is gonna take a lot of money and time to organise an event for August. If all the clubs looking for a float provided a venue for an event during the day, that might be a great start. Thoughts anyone? | ||||

I get the feeling that if we had a float at Pride it would be preaching to the converted in a way, since Gay and lesbian people (in the main - heck - sweeping generalisation here!) tend to be more tolerant of different sexualities. It is also not a perve friendly environment - it is a public event - children go to it. Now, I would like people, and especially children, to learn of BDSM in context, that it is consensual, etc. Another negative side, as Seraf says, is the possibility of repercussions. I suppose, though I reckon it would be a great deal of fun, I don't want us ridiculed, and I am worried that we would be in danger of that. But I may be wrong. did i make a good point? woo hooooooooooo *runs around like a lunatic!* No seriously....the SMDykes had a float cos they are dykes...the other groups were gay men. Im just wary of trying to take something thats about gay pride and trying to make it our thing yanno. I dunno...i wont go on a float..my job is too sensitive..its bad enough if they kno im dating a woman! I really am wary of us putting on a float. However...maybe an event...stalls..workshops etc would be fabbyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy "Dont close your eyes and picture me as perfect. Open your eyes and see whats in front of you. Im not perfect.. Im Me.. a woman and a human being." |
