Can anyone help me?
i have a little problem with my pc, something called 'bestsearch' has attached itself. It is running in stealth and hi-jacking the pc bit by bit. It has currently got hold of my yahoo mail so i cant get into it at all.
i have no virus scan other than avg free edition which is not picking it up and adaware which is picking it up but when it tries to delete it the pc crashes.
i tracked it down to the systems folder in windows but now the whole systems folder had now disappeared!
i'm running windows 98 if anyone can shed any light on this at all....
cheers

Neither a whizz nor a kid but... Its probably a trojan virus that has attached the bestsearch tool bar in order to get affiliate money. A virus checker is what you need to destroy the virus but these programs may help you get control back of some of your system: Hijack this. http://www.spychecker.com/download/download_hija... SpyBot S&D: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html If you get really stuck, try contacting bestsearch. Looks like a legit site. I'm sure they must be delighted someone is using a virus to attach their tool bar. alex_10m

Tried both of these and the spybot one was pretty good, it found 40 spywares thingies and got rid of em all........unfortunately the one that's causing the problem wasn't one of em! shaheena....slave to Master Aquila

I should have mentioned Zone Alarm too. Which would have stopped you getting it. I had something very similar sounding to your problem. Nothing I tried touched it. But I found that the toolbar site had a program to uninstall it! Its a long shot, but maybe it would work for this one too. The tool bar I had was at: and the uninstall link was at the bottom. alex_10m |
