Hmmm. Very amusing, perhaps.

I can see what Bohnanza is getting at. There certainly seems to be some hypocrisy going on here, and the relationship appears to have been dysfunctional for some time.

Plastering the break up over the boards, one assumes in an attempt to garner pity and sympathy, it would be advisable to be prepared for others to question your commitment to this relationship.

However, just because your relationship is a train-wreck-waiting-to-happen doesn't mean that the end of it can't be deeply upsetting.

Perhaps I've just got my "be nice to people, people" hat on.

Yes, and nice use of 'zeitgeist'. I must make an effort to use that more often.
