I'm currently in Istanbul for business - and whilst I can easily get into IC - I was shocked to see that Collarme has been blocked by the state. Is IC or similar sites banned in other countries?
Interestingly I can get into most of my favourite porn sites - so have no idea why Collarme has been singled out (yes maybe they do have taste over here

Tons of stuff is banned in Turkey. Youtube (most of the time), all the dodgy football feeds etc. There were mass public protests last month over goverment censorship of the net and they didn't go well. Turkey is generally a beautiful country with lovely people but it has its issues like anywhere else.

In China you can get abducted by the government for watching the wrong soap opera (saw it on a documentary years ago and it kinda stuck in my head) Britain ain't perfect but I guess we ain't doing too bad It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice

Well I'm happy to report YouTube is now working in Turkey Maybe I'm just too use to being able to access everything I want to online. The idea of online censorship is just such a foriegn concept to me that it shocked me more than perhaps it should have.
Although I can get to one porn site - I cant get to any others Seems very strange when on the way into the city from the airport there was a street with countless adult shops.

I did have a sub who spent time working in middle east and he could not access any related sites. For those seeking 'Venus in Furs' Domination can be elegant. www.mistressemerald.co.uk

Dubai in the UAE has very restricted access to the net. Some sites can be accessed using proxy servers but even then most get caught somehow. There was no alt, IC, CM or other dating sites when I was over there. That was a while ago. Not sure if anything has changed over the past few years. The pleasure, I fear, will be all mine!

My friend couldn't use MSN in Iran. Not that surprised by that one though. .

this is mainly BSish. Go on Collarme and do a search for people in these countries, I think you'll find they can at least access these sites...somehow.

You can find people in these places via all of the dating sites yes. However if you try and use a publicly available internet service you will find that service blocked. Some people do have their own private satalite internet connection. I had access using this to these sites whilst in Afghanistan. Try using regular internet and it wont let you! SO that rules out, internet cafes, hotel servers etc etc. Just another point though. Are you sure these people are actuarly in these places??? It is so easy to put down a different location! The pleasure, I fear, will be all mine!

It won't be long before they block Youtube again. Anytime there is a video mocking or criticising Attaturk it will go. I think it was off for 2 years one point.

My shop site is banned in McDonalds over here and we comply with PayPal's restrictions on adult content. Three mobile take the novel approach of, when I try to access my shop site, they tell me its restricted, and then offer me a menu of their own sponsored sites offering supposed hard core pornography if I pay a few quid for it. One of the recent recommendations of the report on the sexualization of children was that sites offering hardcore previews of content (such as Playboy.tv) should be banned in the UK. This seems to have been suppressed though. Chris |
