Got the 400 pounds saved for the average smartphone, just wondered what you guys are buying at the moment and how it compares to the other options.

At the moment im thinking of either the new iphone 5 in september, samsung galaxy s ii or the windows HTC 7 pro.

Normally one for gadgets, in my experience I would spend my £400 on something other than a new smartphone.

The pre-launch hype always results in a rush to buy them - then a few days later there's a plethora of posts online saying how many bugs the users have discovered.

You'll never convince me of anything other than the latest iPhone... but this does mean I've never tried the competition so it's not a very well rounded argument. :-)

Are you a tinkerer, do you want a device that just works, are you tied into any of the other associated technologies such as having an Xbox Live account, need MS Office integration, buy regularly from iTunes, or want/need an iPad? Answering these questions will help you decide for yourself.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes and yes

And i still want bits of each one all wrapped up in the one phone.

Figure out what operating system you'd like, then see what phones have the features you want and then see what's left.

Can you tell I'm bored and have nothing better to do with my life?
Well nothing more important to do.
Well nothing I can be bothered doing to do.
And you get to suffer my writings because of it.

I'm loving my iPhone 4, I've never found a new phone so easy to use and I found quite a few useful apps so far too.

I've compared with friends who use other smart phones such as the Samsung Galaxy and I still think I made the best choice of what's currently available.

Previously had Sony Ericsson P90 and P990 and 2 versions of the LG Viewty and this is miles easier and better.

Yes i agree that the operating system is the most important, prefer the IOS but hate the lack of sd card slot and other restrictions apple gives with its products.

Android is fine but then I like the tiles of the windows phone display, especially with mango totally overhauling the features later this year.

Do you find your battery lasts the day with moderate use?

I use my phone a lot for surfing the net when bored at work. I find it lasts a 10 hour shift anyway and then I just plug it in when I get into the car.

A tip for you, I bought a socket that goes into my cigarette lighter and uses the same usb cable that you connect to your laptop with. I've found it's incredibly useful for an emergency charge off the work computer too.

If you're not using it constantly to surf the net etc then I can't see 16 hours being impossible at all. There is also a way of closing down all apps when not needed.
