That is because many sites are bringing in anti bot software to make unauthorised searches harder plus the facebook software will not work on cartoons etc or half light images. I have a main email address that is cryptic and the name I use is not my real name. http://empressm7.uboot.com/ http://www.socialkink.com/empressmartine Vampire, pro/lifestyle ts dom/switch.Ageplay mummy/aunty/AB,medical play, domestic, energy, outdoor specialist."Awsome! That's not what it does. It scans pictures uploaded to facebook and if you're in them it suggests to person uploading the picture that they should tag you. That software could be used to trawl the internet looking for pictures of facebook users but, for now, that's not what they are doing.

How would you know if your application had been turned down on the basis of something found on the net? Usually they send out some form letter. Is this one of those "I'm being discriminated against because I'm a perv" threads?

Its like anything else related to internet security. If someone was a bastard, they could monitor all the data going in and out of your connection, and probably find a way in to your computer too. Why should they? There is such a mass of information out there, you have to think "who would care?". I'm not a public figure. Most of the stuff I download on bit torrent is because I couldn't get it elsewhere for love nor money. I self google sometimes - An australian film director has my name so I'm down the listings. (Must write him a letter one day). Oh, and I got the job. Be sensible, but not paranoid. If leaving online trails to here makes you paranoid, you are probably an MP or a celeb, up to you, don't do it if you wouldn't want to stand up for it. Like Max. Good on 'im anyway. X

There was a program on Radio 4 recently about this. They said that there are companies data mining Facebook, Twitter, and lots of other on-line information. They match it all up, and there is a LOT of it. They said that in the future you won't need a CV, when you apply for a job the company will just call up your entire school and work history, along with all those drunk student photos on facebook, and all your statuses, "likes", favourites, tweets, partners, holiday snaps etc. etc. Even my Android phone automatically connects my phonebook, mail contacts and facebook/twitter together. If I enter someone's name it shows me their Facebook profile photos, phone number, latest facebook status, last tweet, email address etc. Chris

Any employer who refused you employment as a result of trawling the net and discovering your "kink" would probably be in breach of the Human Rights Act, you know, the one used by Mr Giggs et al. You have a right to privacy and that search would have breached it. It's not that they searched you, but the purpose of the search that would be in breach.
I'm a bad, bad boy, and I'm going to steal your love.

You wouldn't know because most employers don't even bother to e-mail unsuccessful applicants with a "thanks but no thanks" letter these days. WARNING: The above post may contain inaccuracies, irony or downright sarcasm. Not suitable for anyone allergic to nuts.

Because they hire people who understand statistics? By examining an IC profile and posts, you can get a good handle on what postcode district someone lives in, what movies and pop groups they like (or hate) enough to talk about them, what their politics are, people they know, people they've met, even what their favourite words and turns of phrase are, or which words they habitually spell incorrectly. By examining a Facebook profile, you can get the same information. Now it's just an exercise in matching clumps of data. To be sure, for now this exercise requires enough computing power that only researchers and the Russian Mafia can be bothered to do it, but it's only a matter of time before the cost comes down.
The only way to get around that is to construct completely fake and unrelated profiles on every site you use. Which rather defeats the object of creating them in the first place
Got over it. We're just returning to the pre-urban world in which everybody knew everybody else's business. Nobody ever had any problems with that for the first 10,000 years of civilisation

They don't need to pay a fee, it's all there in Google. You can usually connect most accounts across the net by digging dirt, unless you've been super careful. I've had my website cited as a reason I've been turned down for a few jobs. Apparently it's not appropriate for admin girls to photograph half naked hunks in their spare time. Go figure.
