Society: it's a bit rubbish isn't it? I mean... there it is, all big and scary and all monolithic. And here BDSMers (or people as I called them elsewhere) are a minority who like to do things that aren't what other people (who I saw laughably described as “norms” or “mundanes”) like to do. Obviously it was never mentioned that those norms and mundanes might also be the same norms and mundane who hang-glide over active volcanoes for fun, or (as I did a couple of years ago) chase tornados across Oklahoma, or go spear fishing amongst sharks, or drive motorbikes, swallow swords etc etc. The idea that someone is a “mundane” because they can't have a four foot dildo shoved up their arse without their eyes watering, does, in one sentence uncover the very issue I have with the idea of BDSM Activism as a concept. If people who practice BDSM (from here on called PWPBDSM) go around with such a risible attitude about people who don't share their idea of sex, then I think they deserve all they get quite frankly. They are just as narrow minded and blinkered as the people they despise. For the very same reasons. I don't believe PWPBDSM are discriminated against any more than anyone who does something outside societal norms. I think PWPBDSM who feel they are discriminated against *more* need to take a real hard reality check and get over their bad selves (ahem). What's needed is an unfragmented movement to fight against all discrimination (even discrimination against Mundanes), not a ghetto-ised monoculture only interested in fighting for their own patch. In any case. I'd hate for PWPBDSM to become acceptable and normalised into society. Half the fun of what I do is revelling in the naughtiness of breaking taboos. Take that away and PWPBDSM all become as normal and mundane as Train Spotters, and just as funny and weird (ahem). Thermos and bobblehat anyone? It never ceases to amaze us how narrow minded open minded people can be.

You only have to look at some of the PWPBDSM who post in the politics forum to see ample evidence of that.

Discrimination is good. Discrimination is what stops us shagging some 30 stone woman with a beard who is so totally not our type that we shudder to think of her. What is unacceptable, surely, is prejudice which is not modified in the face of evidence. Sometimes, terminological exactitude has its place. Holmes: Meretricious

Surely you have to make your case first. Argumentum ad lapidem does not cogent, persuasive logic make. If I like something, I'll go with it; if I don't like something, I won't. I'll wager you're exactly the same. Yet you dare call me discriminatory as if it's a bad thing? I'll raise you a hypocrite. Holmes: Meretricious Edited 9 Jun 11, 8:32 PM by The_Majickian
