The word: 'brat' means apron, or pinafore in some Celtic languages, and so its use as an adjective may have originally referred to women, and since brattiness is often considered youthful behaviour, perhaps the women to whom it was applied were young.
Clearly, I'm bratty by name, and doubtless by nature. It may be what keeps me young.

Itr also means Brother in at least one European language (Hungarian). I'm a bad, bad boy, and I'm going to steal your love.

Interesting, and it makes perfect sense, given other European and Indo-European words for brother. Broder, breder, and brawd spring to mind, along with: frater, and frere.. I read that human languages are related, and that a family-tree of all kindred tongues can be drawn-up by comparing words like: "sun", "earth", "mother", "breast","fire", "wheel", etc., but that curiously both the Basque language, and many words of Serbo-Croat have no connection to any other languages on Earth, but have some words in common with one another, which led to some speculation that they could have originated with the Neanderthal people. |
