LAST MINUTE UPDATE: Manchester Slutwalk organisers are asking as many people as possible to arrive at the town hall at 6.30 for the TV cameras.. the march moves off at 7pm. ORIGINAL OP: what do you think about CAAN joining the slutwalk in manchester? I have had a chat with one of the organisers and we're very welcome to join Manchester's Slutwalk and be visible under CAAN's banner. Slutwalk organisers are trying to be sex, gender, sex work, LGBTQ and alternative sexuality positive, which is unusual for anti abuse marches I've seen before (like Reclaim the Night). THIS IS NOT A WOMEN's MARCH, it is for everyone. This, I think, is a rare opportunity to participate in awareness raising about all adult's right to consent, or to not consent.. whilst challenging the not-unheard-of-prejudice that people with alternative sexualities are either being abused or abusive, silently by just being present in support. As posted in more detail on another thread, this campaign is a reaction to something said by a policeman in the US. Future victims of assault in the UK aware of this event are being given the message that our police and courts may discriminate against them, so preventing them from reporting what has happened. If any CAAN people want to march visibly and together there, we can do that too, but someone else will need to co-ordinate locally (I can help if needed).
