Might I suggest you have purchased the wrong beds with regard your metal frames. The cheap thin metal frames sold in most shops are fine when new but they are so thin that any decent wear and tare soon loosens fixings and fatigues the metal and yes it squeeks. If the right thickness metal is used, the welding is up to scratch any number of additions can be used using engineering fixings of various designs. Solid wood is also fine. But there is a new wave of solid looking beds made from pine that is actually made from scrap pieces glued together and then veneered with wood that looks decent. These have been found seriously wanting. The only up side is the even complete DIY newbies can screw in a self tapping steel loop or two. I just had to say not all steel beds are bad. You just need the right one for the job. If you dont have anything good or positive to say, dont say anything.

My metal bed has been with me since the early 90s. Gothicky head and footboard, no end of possibilities. Yeah the nuts and bolts on it need checking from time to time but it usually doesn't squeak and has put up with some pretty serious restraint over the years.

Yes, that is what we used to do with ours. And when we had visitors, we simply unscrewed them and nobody was any wiser. I would draw the line at damaging other people's property, though. For hotels, I'd use the straps that go under the mattress and have D-links to attach cuffs to.

A dark oak ziggurat, topped with a 7' x 7' mattress, atopped by sheets of finest silk, and the legend, 'My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings: Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!', hand-stitched in gold thread by odalisques into a tapestry, hanging behind.
