IC in the papers 2 (17)

Continuing this thread about an ICer *not* being struck off by the General Teaching Council, as reported by the Daily Mail and Heresy Corner, as that GTC decision could be an important precedent because it undercuts an assumed public interest rationale.

Prior to the NotW outing, the victim posted on IC on Wed 30 Apr 08, 8:14 PM "Had the news of the world on my door step this evening about me being a pro domme and working in the public sector. They said they are running a story. Please be careful who you talk to people". This was 4 days before the story which caused all the subsequent hassle actually appeared.

A lot has happened since then on the injunction front. It is not as expensive as some claim.

If the NotW turn up on your doorstop, there are several well placed people who would be prepared to help, depending on the precise circumstances. Take action *immediately* - time is of the essence - and start by contacting CAAN, within whose remit this falls, or Backlash, who have developed relevant legal contacts.

If you move promptly, you might be able to stop the press dead in their tracks and prevent them interfering in your private life.

I have to say that again I do know the young lady and she as mine and my partners support and is a lovely person who does not deserve to be dragged over the coals in public and I hope if you read this huny you will realise the people who know you still think the world of you

this bit is seperate and I am not saying this is the reason but just a bit of common sense brought into this thread

on the topic of teachers, nurses, police officers,Doctors Nursary assitants and all those in sensitive areas of work maybe if the government paid these people what there are truely worth there would be no need for second jobs shall we say

it seems on a weekly basis that one of the above skilled people is caught either working in the sex industry one way or another to make ends meet there is much worse crimes or even religion out there

I would rather have a someone with an adult kink keeping themshelves quiet teaching my children then a fundamentalist baptist, methodist, catholic, muslim, sheik or other

Sorry, I haven't followed this story in full, but 3 years seem to have elapsed since that posting.

Can you imagine 3 years waking up each morning in limbo, wondering if you would be able to continue in your professional career, because a muck raking rag disclosed details of things that you legally did in your own time which did not affect the way you did your job?

That's correct. That's how long the wheels of justice, or whatever one laughingly cares to call it, take to grind. And this case may not be over even yet.

Far better to nip in the bud. CAAN or Backlash can facilitate stepping in quickly to file the relevant papers. Whether a judge agrees depends on a) privacy and b) public interest.

Until this regulator gave this verdict, I'd have been inclined to say teachers are in a tricky position vis a vis public interest. Now there is this precedent, newspapers would have to make a case why the GTC are wrong.

On privacy, an account on IC may be visible but you'd have to be looking and few if any use real names. Identifiable pics could still void one's right to privacy.

When this happened, ICers weren't up to speed on privacy options. Now we are, for which we owe quite a lot to Max Mosley.

This is why few people know what I do for a living and I have little trouble over the years, but the advice on how to get rid of the press is useful.

I too know the Lady who this article refers too and she is a wonderful person who doesn't deserve any of this. She is an excellent teacher who loves her job. As far as I can see her kink activities in no way impacted on her ability to teach. Or did cross one another so if not for the NofTW no one would have known.

I just hope she gets through this ok and gets back into doing the job she loves and is very good at.

Nope, sorry - plenty of evidence to show homosexuality in nature.

I'm not convinced that interest in BDSM has unnatural causes, either.

Why cant we just let kids grow up the way nature intends. Let them be kids.
Sure. I wouldn't want a straight pushing their heterosexuality onto kids, either.

Being a submissive is a miserable way to live
Speak for yourself. I love it.

and i can't believe that anyone on here sub, or Dom'me would encourage there kids or grand kids to enter the lifestyle, well i hope not
I wouldn't encourage them to be anything. Including as far as straight sexual acts are concerned. Is anyone suggesting that they should?

I'm sure plenty of straight teachers engage in acts like oral or anal sex with their partners. I don't see what that has to do with telling children about it, though.

I agree with cookiemonster on the first thread. I assume the school was more concerned with her taking a second job, which would have been a breach of her contract of employment. They wouldn't have liked the intimate nature of her second employment, but the teaching board recognised that her activities would have no effect on children, which is has to be right.

I just hope that she will teach again and it shows how the mass media like to put a spin on any sexual activities that appear to be above the norm.

Nice things come in small packages...but so does poison!
