Well done MH good words truly said. The boy will soon cool down in the eyes of others when he hides behind his screen and coffee cups. There are only so many words you can hear before there needs to be flesh to the dream. Cruelty is like hope: it springs eternal | |||

Impressive poem there MH - your use of half rhyme intensifies the "so near and so far" tone, as does the rhythmic parallelism of "manoevers/adventures" and "promising/flattering". Lovely assonance in the line endings "true/boots" which is a great way to take the poem forward to its conclusion, and also to emphasise the reality of those boots as opposed to the fantasy objects. And once that reality is established, the reader is set up for the killer line "On your knees...in your dreams", where again, assonance links the knees and the dreams, but the opposed prepositions whisk the kneeling back into the unrealised world of the entirely notional. Full rhyme is only used internally ("You said you'd be my Pet..and yet") and for the description of the addressee's actions within his own ambit ("operation/nation" "back/attack"), ensuring that his professional confidence is brought into sharp relief with his perceived failure of nerve...
